The Augustana volleyball team took some time out from a successfull season to help an area coach. The Vikings raised $825 in honor of Black Hawk College head coach Mary Davis. The team bought pink 'Fighting for Mary' T-shirts that were sold to spectators at Viking matches. “Mary Davis is an inspiration to us all," said Augie coach Jamie Walters. "Mary has shown that anything is possible with a strong head on your shoulders and a positive outlook. This is something that we thought was an important cause.” Walters took her team to a Black Hawk match earlier this year in support of Davis, who is fighting breast cancer. The Vikings then dedicated their Oct. 2 CCIW match with North Central to selling the shirts as part of “Breast Cancer Awareness Night.” Last Thursday, the Augustana JV played Davis’ BHC team at Carver Center with the T-shirts sold there as well.
