Roy W. VanDerKamp, 93, of Davenport, formerly of Rock Island, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at Crest Health Center, Davenport.
Memorial services are 1 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, Davenport. Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. The family also will greet friends Friday following the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Churches United of the Quad City Area or to a favorite charity.
Mr. VanDerKamp was born on Jan. 22, 1919, in Pella, Iowa, the son of Wilber and Joanna Boot VanDerKamp. He married Helen M. Vredenburg on Dec. 20, 1945, in Corydon, Iowa.
Roy graduated from Central College, Pella, and was awarded his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Iowa in 1943. He first practiced law with the law firm of Jones Day in Cleveland, Ohio. Roy returned to the Quad-Cities in 1944, where he practiced law until his retirement in 2010.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Joel Lamplough, Wayne, Ill.; son and daughter-in-law, David VanDerKamp and Jean Norton, Bettendorf; and his granddaughter, Chrystene VanDerKamp, Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Joanna VanDerKamp.
