Hungry for fun? Rock Island Library offers summer cooking programs for adults

As part of the adult summer activities theme of "Books are Brain Food," the Rock Island Public Library will offer a series of free Recipe Club and Swap programs at the Rock Island Main and Southwest Branches this summer.

The free events for food lovers 18 and over capitalize on the strength of the library's extensive cookbook collection. Each event features a recipe swap among participants, and a cooking demonstration by guest chef Rachel Doumbia. Upcoming programs are:

· 2:00 pm, Wednesday, June 13. Topic: Breakfast dishes, Southwest Branch Community Room, 9010 Ridgewood Road.

· 6:00 pm, Tuesday, June 26. Topic: Pasta dishes, Main Library Community Room, 401 19th Street.

· 2:00 pm, Wednesday, July 11. Topic: Slow cooker dishes, Southwest Branch Community Room, 9010 Ridgewood Road.

· 6:00 pm, Monday, July 23. Topic: Desserts, Main Library Community Room, 401 19th Street.

Participants should bring a recipe to share. No registration is required. The events are free and open to the public.

In addition to free events, the Rock Island Library is also rewarding adults who read this summer. To enter the summer reading contest, adults 18 and over should fill out one entry slip for each book the entrant completes reading between June 4 and July 27. Books read before June 4 do not qualify. All entries must be returned by Friday, July 27. Entry forms and entry boxes are available at all Rock Island Libraries. Prizes will be drawn and winners notified after August 3.
