William "Les" Lester Forsberg, 86, of Moline, died Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at Amber Ridge Memory Care, Moline.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, 6601 38th Ave., Moline. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, at the funeral home. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorial contributions may be made to New Hope (formerly Moline Gospel Temple) or to First Congregational Church (Card Ministry).
Les was born on Nov. 17, 1925, in Moline, the son of Roy and Wynona Willard Forsberg. He married Barbara Hulett on June 3, 1949, in Moline. They were married for 62 years.
He worked as an engineer at International Harvester. Les was a YMCA member and enjoyed many recreational activities such as playing tennis, handball and racquetball. He was also a member of New Hope (formerly Moline Gospel Temple), a deacon, board member, Sunday school teacher and high school superintendent for the church. Les loved hunting and had served in the U.S. Navy. He was referred to as "Bwana" by anyone who went on one of his many Boundary Water Canoe trips. He was very committed to following the tennis careers of his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Forsberg, Moline; sons, Doug (Valli) Forsberg, Moline, Brian (Shelly) Forsberg, Moline; grandchildren, Aaron (Rachel) Forsberg, Drew (Gaby) Forsberg, Brooke Forsberg, Jenna Forsberg; sister-in-law, Pat (Gordon) Schwabe, Moline; brother-in-law, Wilbert (Judy) Hulett, Moline; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Chelsea Lyn Forsberg.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Amber Ridge Assisted Living Memory Care, Beacon of Hope Hospice and Intouch Adult Day Care.
