Coal Valley's Wiemers takes third at Elks Hoops Shoot

Drew Wiemers had quite a run in the recent Elks Hoops Shoot contest. The Coal Valley resident finished third (shown with his trophy) at the Elks Hoops Shoot North Central Regional Championship. Prior to his 3rd-place regional finish. Wiemers, the son of Tasha and Bill Wiemers, won local, district and state competitions. A student at Franklin School, Wiemers competed in the 10-to-11-year-old Boys Division and represented Rock Island Elks Lodge #980 in the stepladder contest that began last fall. He was one of more than three million boys and girls ages 8- 13 competing nationwide for a spot in the National finals in Springfield, Mass. The North Central Regional Hoop Shoot was one of 12 regions represented by winners of their home states of Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
