Margery R. Ratcliff, 89, a resident of Heritage Health, Chillicothe, Ill., formerly of Wyoming, Ill., and Rock Island, died at noon Thursday, March 8, 2012, at Heritage Health.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville, Ill. Father Patrick Riordan will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be at St. Mary of the Woods Cemetery, Princeville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Margery was born Oct. 12, 1922, in Radnor Township, Peoria County, Ill., the daughter of Roy and Mary Carroll Ratcliff.

She received her bachelor's degree from Illinois State University in 1930 and began teaching in a one-room school in rural Princeville. She later taught at Henry Grade School, was principal of Valley Consolidated School, then taught at Central Grade School and Westmont Grade School in Westmont, Ill. Margery earned her master's degree from Loyola University, Chicago, and took a sabbatical at the University of North Carolina. From 1965 to 1990, she was a professor at Augustana College in Rock Island, where she retired as director of the Education Department.

She is survived by two brothers, John (Lois) Ratcliff, Sparland, Ill., Vincent Ratcliff, Wyoming; and two sisters, Helen Anne Clifford, Chillicothe, and Mary Jane (Anil) Verna, Brooklyn, N.Y.; and 17 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Eddy, Philip, Michael and Roy Francis "Buddy."
