A small plane flying into the Quad City International Airport in Moline from Dubuque landed safely after initially having a landing gear issue on Friday morning, Feb. 17, 2012. Bryan Johnson, Quad City International Airport assistant director of aviation, said a pilot and six passengers were in the twin engine aircraft when the plane's landing gear didn't fully extend as it approached the airport. The airport's firefighter/rescue crew responded, as well as the Moline Fire Department. Mr. Johnson said the plane was able to land after the landing gear was manually cranked down. The plane did a fly-by with the gear extended to get confirmation it was down, which Mr. Johnson said is the normal protocol after an airplane experiences landing gear issues. He said everyone did a great job, and it was a “very textbook-like.” There were no injuries. Mr. Johnson said the incident was over at about 8:15 a.m.

The pilot of a small plane flying from Dubuque made an emergency landing this morning at Quad City International Airport.

About 8:15 a.m. the pilot informed air traffic controllers that the plane's landing gear was malfunctioning. Airport emergency personnel scrambled onto the runway in preparation for a possible crash. After a fly-by, the pilot was able to manually lower the landing gear and make a safe landing.

According to Elliott Aviation there were six passengers on board. No further information was available.
