Dr. Donald C. Davis, 89, of Rock Island, passed away Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at Avonlea Cottage, Milan.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Donald C. Davis Speech and Language Scholarship at Augustana College, Rock Island.

Donald was born July 6, 1922, in Milan, the son of Carl and Theo (Coyne) Davis. He married Marion Lois Sherrill on June 22, 1947, at First United Methodist Church, Rock Island.

Dr. Davis was a graduate of Rock Island High School Class of 1940, Augustana College, where he earned his bachelor's degree, and Northwestern University, where he received his master's and doctorate in speech pathology. Donald was a World War II Army veteran.

Dr. Davis had been employed as Augustana College from 1950 to 1988, as a professor of speech and language pathology. He also was the director of the Easter Seal Foundation of Rock Island County for 28 years and the TV host of "This is Augustana College" on WHBF for 35 years.

Donald had been a member of Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, Rock Island, former president of the Moline exchange club, charter president of Rock Island County Community Welfare Council, coordinator with the Quad City Area Cleft Palate Group and cofounder of the New Voice Club of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois. Donald's professional memberships included the American Speech Language and Hearing Association, Illinois Speech and Hearing Association, Quad City Speech and Hearing Association, American Cleft Palate Association, National Academy of Professional Programs in Communicative Sciences and Disorders, Illinois Directors of Speech and Language Training Institutions, and the Higher Education Advisory Council to Illinois State Board of Education.

Donald received numerous awards and honors, including being a fellow of the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association, honors of association from the Illinois Speech and Hearing Association, honors of association from the Quad City Speech and Hearing Association, award for distinguished service from the Rock Island Rotary, outstanding achievement award from the Illinois Rehabilitation Association, Jaecke Award from Augustana College for Campus Leadership, and the Donald C. Davis Speech and Language Scholarship established in 1988 after retirement from Augustana College.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Kathy Davis, Rock Island; former son-in-law, Chuck Condry, Fulton, Ill.; grandchildren, Emily Davis, Urbana, Alison Davis, DeKalb, Dan Condry, New Knoxville, Ohio, Don Condry, Portland, Ore., and Dana Jacks and her husband, Jeremiah, Gunnison, Colo; and great-grandson, Parker Jacks.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; daughter, Sherrill Rae Davis Condry; and sister, Marjorie Rae Davis Crompton.
