Five in a decade.

Five in a row.

A lot of high fives were handed out for a pair of Moline High School clubs on Saturday.

With 16-0 and 5-0 wins over the Silver Streaks in Galesburg, the Moline softball team won its fifth consecutive Western Big 6 Conference championship. An hour later, the Maroons baseball team wrapped up its second consecutive conference crown and fifth title since 2000 with a pair of wins over Galesburg 8-5 and 6-2.

Both the Moline clubs have their sights set on the future with the hope of rectifying a disappointing 2007 playoff past.

The baseball team has an unexpected, first-round ousting by Metamora in the 2007 regionals to avenge. The softball team wants to put behind them a premature regional-championship loss to United Township.

Both coaches hope their players have that in their sights.

``We've never had the Big 6 title as our main focus,'' Moline softball coach Mark Gerlach said. ``It's always nice to beat the rivals in town, and we know what great softball is played in the Q-C. That's a highlight, but not the highlight of the year.''

Moline baseball coach Derek Lindauer hopes his senior-laden club will set out to realize the potential they have placed on themselves.

``The thing I like the most is that I think they learned a little bit from last year,'' Lindauer said. ``Sometimes I think the seniors are picked to win and they do win it.

``I don't find myself yelling a whole bunch or having to go over the small things. A lot of times our seniors are holding others accountable on the field. When kids are coaching themselves, that's the best situation we can be in.''

Along with being champs.
