    Jesse Stewart Jr.

    Jesse Stewart Jr., of Sacramento, Calif., formerly of Rock Island, succumbed to lung cancer Sunday, June 24, 2007.

    Memorial services for Mr. Stewart will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 21, at the Second Baptist Church, 919 6th Ave., Rock Island, with the Rev. Joseph D. Williamson officiating.

    Debby Coussens

    Debby L. Coussens, 56, of Moline, died Saturday, July 14, 2007, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.

    Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 20, at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established.

    The former Debby Hillmer was born Nov. 18, 1950, in Moline, the daughter of William and Irene Jacobowski Hillmer. She married Michael Coussens on Dec. 30, 1970.

    She was employed at John Deere for several years and had volunteered at Del Sol Medical Center in El Paso, Texas.

    She enjoyed working with stained glass and ceramics. Debby was an avid hockey fan, loving mother and wife.

    Survivors include her daughter, Andria Ruiz, Moline; son and daughter-in-law, Corey and Lesley Coussens, Davenport; father and stepmother, William and Dorothy Hillmer, Moline; sisters and brother-in-law, Nancy Gomez, San Antonio, Texas, Katie and Reid Fleming, Lexington, S.C., Samantha Hillmer, Carrollton, Texas; former husband and best friend, Michael Coussens; and her sheltie, Angel. She was preceded in death by her mother.

    Helen Hobbs

    Helen N. Hobbs, 87, of Moline, died Monday, July 16, 2007, at Trinity Pathway Hospice in Bettendorf.

    Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 19, at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. The Rev. Douglas Schoonover will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 18, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens in Silvis. Memorials may be made to Trinity Pathway Hospice.

    Helen N. King was born on March 20, 1920, to John and Margaret Crutcher King in Trenton, Mo. She married Guy Hobbs on May 20, 1937, in Trenton. He preceded her in death in October of 1978.

    She was a homemaker and especially enjoyed her grandchildren.

    Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Butch Creen, East Moline; her son-in-law, Don Nyquist, Silvis; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a daughter, Rita Nyquist.

    Floyd Ashton

    Floyd C. Ashton, 94, formerly of Beaman, Iowa, died Saturday, July 15, 2007, at the Oakview Home, Conrad, Iowa.

    Funeral services and a celebration of Floyd's life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 20, at the Beaman United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Hall officiating. Burial is in the Oakland Cemetery, Beaman. A public visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening, July 19, at the Johnston Funeral Home in Conrad. A memorial fund is being established.

    Survivors are his two daughters, Pat Reuter, East Moline, and Linda Ashton, Chicago, Ill.; one grandchild, Jackie (spouse, Jim) Leonard, Bettendorf; and two great-grandchildren.

    Gloria K. Botta, 66, of East Moline, died Monday, July 16, 2007, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.

    Waymond Mescher

    Waymond Dale Mescher, 75, a resident of Utica, Mo., and a former resident of Milan, passed away at his home on Saturday, July 14, 2007.

    Cremation rites have been accorded. Arrangements are under the direction of the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo.

    Waymond was born on May 16, 1932, the son of Louis and Hilda Wedeking Mescher in Metropolis, Ill. He worked as a "jack of all trades," and he enjoyed motorcycles, rebuilding engines, and making oil paintings.

    Survivors include daughter, Debra Crandall and son-in-law, Edmond Bradley, Utica; sister, Irene Threlkeld, Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Christina Phifer, Peoria, Ill., and Rose Slaughter, Davenport; nephew, Jerry Threlkeld Sr., Houston.

    Morris DeBoever

    Morris A. DeBoever, 86, of Geneseo, passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2007, at the Hammond-Henry Hospital Skilled Care Unit, Geneseo.

    A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Malachy's Catholic Church, Geneseo. The Rev. Michael Pakula will celebrate. Burial will be in the North Cemetery, Geneseo. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo, where the rosary will be recited at 7:45 p.m. followed by a Pilgrim Degree Service by Geneseo Moose Lodge No. 990 at 8 p.m. Memorials may be left to the Geneseo Moose Lodge.

    Morris was born on Oct. 8, 1920, in rural Geneseo, the son of Leon and Irma Verlinde DeBoever. He was united in marriage to Gertrude Jasper on June 10, 1944, in St. Malachy's Church, Geneseo.

    Morris had been a lifelong farmer in rural Geneseo, farming for 55 years, and 50 of those years were on the same farmstead. He retired in 2000, when he and Gertrude moved to town.

    He was a member of the St. Malachy's Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society of the Church, Geneseo Moose Lodge No. 990, where he had received his pilgrim degree, and the Henry County Farm Bureau.

    He enjoyed playing rolle bolle, and was a very dedicated member and worker at the Geneseo Moose Lodge.

    Survivors (and spouses) include his wife, Gertrude; one daughter, Janet (Kenny) Hipskind, East Moline; one son, John (Deb) DeBoever, Geneseo; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Corey) Gradert, Amy DeBoever, Marisa (T.J.) Thompson, Janah (David) Cunningham, and Jeffrey Hipskind; 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Pete and Raymond DeBoever.

    Evelyn Frey

    Evelyn L. Frey, 90, of Osceola, Ill., died July 15, 2007, at Apostolic Christian Skylines, Peoria, Ill.

    Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist, Kewanee. Burial is in Toulon Cemetery. Visitation is 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church on Thursday. Schueneman-Tumbleson, Kewanee, is handling arrangements.

    She was born July 21, 1916. She married Leslie R. "Bub" Frey; he died in 1945.

    Surviving are son, Virgil, Peoria; daughter, Carol Gunning, Tennessee; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; three siblings.

    Dora Schumacher

    Dora M. Schumacher, 81, of Erie, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2007, at home.

    A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gibson Funeral Home, Erie. Burial will be in the Erie Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service starting at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Rock River Valley Hospice.

    The former Dora Marie Conchola was born April 22, 1926, in Letts, Iowa, the daughter of Martin and Martha Murillo-Conchola. She married Roger Schumacher on Jan. 13, 1968, in Rushville, Ill.

    Dora attended Letts Consolidated School. She worked at International Harvester for 29 years and also farmed out at Erie since 1968.

    Dora and Roger, her husband of 39 years, traveled quite extensively. She liked to sew, cook, knit and crochet.

    She is survived by her husband, Roger; stepdaughter, Janice and her husband, James Graszer, Erie; three stepgrandchildren; her sister, Juanita Conchola, Davenport; brother-in-law, Dallas Schumacher, Russellville, Ark.; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, three brothers, a niece and a nephew.

    Gladys West

    Gladys L. West, 83, of Geneseo, passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2007, at the Hammond-Henry Hospital Extended Care Unit, Geneseo.

    Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 20, at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. The Rev. Dan Wright will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo, where military honors will be accorded by Don Cherry VFW post No. 5083. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the Gladys West Memorial Fund.

    Gladys was born on Dec. 1, 1923, in Stockton, Ill., the daughter of Ernest and Mary Staub Kleckner. She was a 1941 graduate of the Stockton High School and later attended the Marinello School of Beauty Culture in Davenport.

    She served our country as a WAVE for two years in World War II.

    She was united in marriage to LaVerne West on Oct. 1, 1949, in Rockford, Ill.

    Gladys was a beautician at various beauty shops and also owned and operated the Country Beauty Haven from her home in Geneseo for 25 years.

    She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Geneseo, and the Mississippi Valley WAVE National.

    She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and singing with the Happy Wanderers singing group.

    Survivors (and spouses) include her husband, LaVerne; one daughter, Dixine (Rick) Grantham, Jackson, Mo.; two sons, Don (Peggy) West, Geneseo, Duane (Karen) West, Geneseo; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Genevieve Russell, McConnell, Ill., Marjorie Roberts, Elizabeth, Ill., Vivian Otte, Lena, Ill., Jeanette Haas, Savanna, Ill.; three brothers, Robert Kleckner, Stockton, Donald Kleckner, Stockton, Richard Kleckner, Lena; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

    Marjorie Ziegler

    Marjorie L. Ziegler, 84, of Silvis, formerly of Port Byron, died Monday, July 16, 2007, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.

    Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Gibson Funeral Home, Port Byron. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery, Port Byron. Visitation will be from noon to service time on Thursday. A memorial fund has been established.

    The former Marjorie Lucy Coe was born Oct. 3, 1922, in Coe Township, the daughter of Frank S. and Grace Sidlinger Coe. She married Harold "Skeeter" Ziegler on Oct. 28, 1945, in Port Byron. He died on March 1, 2001.

    Mrs. Ziegler was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Port Byron. She enjoyed bird watching and visiting with her friends at the Cordova Legion.

    Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Terry and Dawn Ziegler, Moline, and Tom Ziegler, Cordova; grandchildren, Nick Ziegler, Moline, Jeff Ziegler, Moline, Jessica Griffin, Cordova, and Nate Ziegler, Port Byron; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Shirley Ziegler, Davenport. She was preceded in death by brothers, Arthur and Carlyle Coe.

    Robert Hofmann

    Robert Hofmann, 77, Bettendorf, died July 14, 2007, at home.

    Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic, Bettendorf. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 4-9 p.m. today at McGinnis-Chambers, Bettendorf, with a rosary at 7:45 p.m.

    He was born June 25, 1930. He married Marian McMann; she died in 2003.

    Surviving are children, Marybeth, Robert, Bettendorf, John, Wisconsin; three grandchildren; sister, Mary Jo, Bettendorf; brothers, William, Pleasant Valley, Ronald, Michael, Davenport.

    Nathan Holdorf

    Nathan Harry Holdorf, 34, of Davenport, passed from this Earth early Sunday morning, July 15, 2007, as a result of a motorcycle accident.

    A memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Runge Mortuary.

    Nathan was born April 25, 1973.

    Surviving are his parents, Dennis and Judi McDonald Holdorf, Eldridge; brother and sister-in-law, Chad and Lindsay Jenkins Holdorf, Grimes, Iowa; grandfather, Harold Holdorf, Davenport; many uncles and aunts.

    Patricia Sanders

    Patricia Ann Sanders, 53, of Moline, formerly of Davenport, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2007, at Trinity Pathway Hospice, Bettendorf.

    Private funeral services and burial will be held. There will be no visitation. Runge, Davenport, is assisting with arrangements.

    She was born Feb. 28, 1954.

    Surviving are children, Michael Harris, Timothy Harris, Heather Harris, and Jeffrey Bolton, all Moline; grandchildren, Tyler, Mikayla, Ryan, Alyssa and Averyana; siblings and spouses, Dorothy Newman, Ken and Vickie Sanders, Karen and Craig Sambdman; seven nephews.
