    Sara L. Buck, 69, of Ranger, Ga., formerly of Rock Island, died Monday, April 3, 2006, in Atlanta, Ga.

    Services are noon Friday, April 7, in Jasper, Ga.

    She was born Sept. 11, 1936 in Rock Island.

    Surviving are her daughter, Jayna Buchholz, Coal Valley; son, Tom Shaw, Ranger; and five grandchildren, Shannon Clark, Florida, Jake, Mollie, Riley and Oliver, Ranger.

    Raymond DeGreve

    Raymond Rene DeGreve, 83, of Rock Island, formerly of East Moline, passed away Monday, April 3, 2006, after an extended battle with cancer at his son's home in Ely, Iowa.

    Funeral services will be held at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island, on Friday, April 7, at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home on Friday. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Military honors will be provided by Milan American Legion Post 569 and 200, VFW Post 1303. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

    Mr. DeGreve was born Oct. 7, 1922, in East Moline, to Phillip and Sabina Viaene DeGreve. He lived, went to school, and worked in the Quad-Cities area. On Oct. 12, 1942, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline, he married June Pearl Grams, the love of his life. She preceded him in death in December of 1976.

    Raymond and June loved to travel, play golf and enjoy fine dining. He was employed as a clerk at American Air Filter, Moline, until retirement in 1984 after 25 years of service. He loved to travel, especially with his wife, who was his best friend and buddy. They enjoyed their vacations and visited many states in the United States and the Bahamas. He learned how to fly at the age of 72.

    Raymond served from January 1943 to September 1945 in the 15th Army Air Force, 485th Bomb Group; and the 831st Bomb Squadron, Venosa, Italy, from April 1944 to May 1945.

    Survivors (and spouses) include his sons, Dean (Jo) DeGreve, Ely, Gary (Yvonne) DeGreve, Bettendorf; daughter-in-law, Barb DeGreve, Colona; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; special friends, Harlan (Kula) Wiss, Delray Beach, Fla., Pat Purcell, Moline, George Skafidas, Rock Island. His wife of 34 years; his son, Colin; brother, Phillip; and his parents preceded him in death.

    Patricia Henderson

    Funeral services for Patricia Ann Armstrong Henderson, 55, of Leesville, La., formerly of Rock Island, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2006, at the Corner Stone Baptist Church in Leesville. Burial followed in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Leesville, under the direction of Thomas Mortuary in Many, La.

    Mrs. Henderson passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at Byrd Regional Hospital, Leesville.

    She is survived by her husband, Johnny Henderson, Leesville; one daughter, Valarie Morrow (Terry Sr.); one son, Keenan Armstrong Jr. (Deborah); one brother, Howard Armstrong Jr. (Monica); nine grandchildren, Shakayla Morrow, Rayven Morrow, Terry Morrow Jr., Darrques Rhoden, Keeyanna Armstrong, Keena Armstrong, Chadai Armstrong, Keenan Armstrong Jr., Asia Armstrong; one great-grandchild, Kaileal Armstrong; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

    John Henkel II

    John G. Henkel II, 52, a resident of Rock Island, died Sunday, April 2, 2006, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

    A memorial visitation to celebrate his life will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 6, at Zion Lutheran Church, 1216 W. 8th St., Davenport. Memorials may be made to the family. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, is assisting the family with arrangements.

    John was born July 23, 1953, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of John Glenn and Mary Schaaf Henkel. He was united in marriage to Taina L. Machalek Feb. 14, 1989, in Bettendorf.

    During the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Navy.

    John was self-employed throughout the years. He sold batteries and was known as the "Battery Man." He then did snowplowing and hauling, and drove trucks in the Quad-Cities area.

    He was a University of Illinois Extension trained Master Gardener. For many years, he was a loyal volunteer as 4-H Master Gardener in their urban garden program, where he was affectionately known as "Oatmeal." John was also a member of Teamsters Local 371 in Rock Island.

    Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife, Taina Machalek; his son, Michael Melchi and his wife, Tamara, Rock Island; his daughter, Gabrielle Machalek, Davenport; his sisters, Mary Watson, Muscatine, Iowa, Maria Wetteland, DeWitt, Iowa, and Nan Henkel, Davenport; his brothers, Bob Henkel, Florida, Mike Henkel, Lance Henkel, Kurt Henkel, Rick Henkel and Joe Henkel, all of Davenport; his father and stepmother, John and Beverly Henkel, Davenport; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary; and by his sister, Diana Henkel.

    Laura Weybright Medved

    Laura Weybright Medved, 79, of Ellenton, Fla., passed away Saturday, March 25, 2006, at Hospice House, Sarasota, Fla.

    Memorial services were 1 p.m. Monday, April 3, at Ellenton United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church or Hospice of Ellenton.

    She was born Oct. 3, 1926, in Germany, to Fred and Frida Boettcher. She married Richard F. Weybright in 1947. She later married Carl Medved, who preceded her in death. She moved to Florida in 1986.

    Survivors and spouses include her sons, Richard and Cheryl Weybright, Rock Island, Jeffrey and Diane Weybright, Rock Island; grandsons, Michael Weybright, Rock Island, Thomas Weybright, Peoria, Ill.; brother, Paul and Beverly Boettcher, Moline; cousins, Eugen and Mary Rothacker, Afton, Va., Erich and Joyce Rothacker, Bloomingburg, N.Y.; and special friends, Paula Jensen, Bradenton, Fla., and Patricia Versluis, Moline.

    Lonnie Gritton

    Lonnie E. Gritton, 94, of Oakridge, Tenn., passed away on Friday, March 31, 2006, in an Oakridge nursing home.

    Graveside services will be Friday, April 7, at 11 a.m. in the Edgington Cemetery, Edgington. Military honors will be conducted by the Reynolds American Legion Post 1166. Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Orion, is assisting the family.

    He was born Nov. 30, 1911, in Buffalo Prairie Township, the son of Clarence C. and Ethel Gritton. He attended grammar school in Edgington.

    He worked for farmers in the area until he went to work with the Rock Island Farmall Factory. He was inducted into the Army in 1939 and served 5 1/2 years with honors.

    After service, he returned to the Rock Island area until moving to Milwaukee, Wis., where he lived until 1957, when he moved to California. He worked for Oscar Mayer until his retirement in the early 80s. He spent his retirement years in St. George, Utah. His wife, Marjorie, died July 27, 2004. He recently moved to Tennessee to be close to his brother, Warren.

    He is survived by two brothers, Warren E. Gritton, Oakridge, Eldon R. (spouse, Daphne) Gritton, Sacramento, Calif.; several grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl; a brother, Bert E. Gritton; and a sister, Ruth I. Bennett.

    Mary `Kay' Mulcay

    Mary K. "Kay" Mulcay, 83, of Prophetstown, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at Royal Oaks Nursing Home, Kewanee.

    Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Gibson & Son, Prophetstown. Burial follows in Riverside Cemetery, Prophetstown. Visitation is 1 p.m. to services.

    Kay was born Jan. 10, 1923, to Willard and Mary Bernhardy. She married Shorty Raser April 25, 1942. He died in 1972. She then married Chuck Mulcay Aug. 30, 1974. He died in 1997.

    Survivors are daughter, Becky VanDeWostine, Prophetstown; four grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; and several great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Frary, Prophetstown; stepdaughters, Karen Buck, Cary, Ill., Teresa Mulcay, California, Penny Wolf, Washington; and stepson, Mark Mulcay, Polo, Ill.

    William Stegmiller

    William D. "Bill" Stegmiller, 79, of Taylor Ridge, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at his home.

    Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan. Burial with military honors presented by Reynolds American Legion Post 1166 will be in Edgington Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Edgington Cemetery.

    Bill was born April 10, 1926, in Adrian, Mich., a son of Servine H. Stegmiller and Alice Walker Stegmiller. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, in which he served on a minesweeping team in Okinawa and Iwo Jima. He married Darlene Eckhardt on April 8, 1951, in Rock Island County. She preceded him in death on Nov. 23, 1987.

    Bill was a carpenter for many years. He retired in 1986. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Andalusia Fire Protection District. He served as a scoutmaster for a time with the Boy Scouts of America. He was an avid collector of S-guage model trains.

    Surviving are his children (and spouses), Peggy (Jim) Fox, Wilton, Iowa, Robert (Kathy) Stegmiller, Taylor Ridge, and Kenneth (Mary) Stegmiller, Prophetstown; grandchildren, Todd Stegmiller, Tara Stegmiller, Matt Fox, Aaron Fox, Christine Fox, Angie Stegmiller, and Allie Stegmiller; stepgrandchildren, Shawn Grimes and Michele Stevens; and a sister, Veronica McRae, Burlington, Wash. Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Marty Stegmiller; a brother and a sister.

    Fred Busch

    Services for Fred D. Busch, 58, of Davenport, are 10 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony's Catholic, Davenport. Burial is in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Thursday, with prayers at 7 p.m. at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, Davenport.

    He died Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at home.

    He was born Sept. 17, 1947, to Margaret Ranberger Busch. He married Nancy Schlichting May 20, 1978.

    Survivors are wife; children, Natalie, Ames, Iowa, Austin, Chadwick, both Davenport, Bret, Brad, both Muscatine, Iowa; sister, Maggie Yocum, Muscatine.

    Rita Campbell

    Rita L. Campbell, 60, Davenport, died April 3, 2006, at home.

    Services are 1 p.m. Friday at Weerts, Davenport. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday. Graveside services are 11:30 a.m. Monday at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. To attend burial, meet at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Monday.

    She was born June 15, 1945, to Ralph and Ruth Jones. She married Larry Campbell Dec. 26, 1963.

    Survivors are her husband; sons, Larry, Rock Island, Jerry and Daniel, both of Davenport; four siblings, including David Jones, Coal Valley; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

    Brian Davis

    Brian W. Davis, 35, of Davenport, died Sunday, April 2, 2006, at his home.

    Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the family.

    Brian was born June 21, 1970, in Rock Island, the son of Gary W. Davis and Linda Ann Reyes Muller.

    Mr. Davis worked as a commercial cleaner and an automobile reconditioner.

    He was a member of the Import Car Club of the Quad Cities and enjoyed using his artistic skills in specializing cars with aftermarket products.

    Brian enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, his children, and his dogs, Katie, Abbey, Jasmine and Tarra, and his cats, Sabrina and Angelica.

    He was an avid collector of diecast cars.

    Survivors (and spouses) include his parents, Gary (Carolyn) Davis, Rock Island, and Linda (Greg) Muller, Moline; children, Kent Mauer, Champaign, Ill., Paisley Davis, Davenport, and Zane Davis, Davenport; sister, Sherry (Jim) Morrison, New Windsor; grandfather, Gerald Davis, Milan; half-brothers, Jim (Joni) Daniels, Paris, Texas, Tim (Mary) Coe, Rock Island, Brian Coe, Rock Island; half-sister, Gina Price, Collinsville, Va.; fiancee, Amber Carlin and her daughter, Avalon, both of Davenport; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Elizabeth Reyes; grandmothers, Jo Ann Davis and Dorothy Davis.

    Debbra Sue Huebner, 56, of Davenport, died Monday, April 3, 2006.

    She was born Oct. 22, 1949, in Davenport, to Elmer and Eva Koss. She married Randy Huebner Aug. 14, 1971.

    Survivors are husband, Randy; daughter, Minda Nelson, Olathe, Kan.; son, Brian, Phoenix, Ariz.; brothers, Don Koss, Bettendorf, Doug von Koss, San Francisco, Calif.; sister, Deanna Haiston, Davenport; mother, Eva Koss, Davenport.

    Roger Morrell

    Roger Jon Morrell, 64, of Davenport, died Sunday, April 2, 2006, at Genesis East, Davenport.

    Services are 10 a.m. Friday at McGinnis-Chambers, Bettendorf. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Thursday.

    He was born Dec. 5, 1941, to Thomas and Gladys Morrell Sr. He married Miona Madden Feb. 13, 1970. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

    Survivors are wife; daughter, Candy Thorne (spouse, Brian) Stender, Overland Park, Kan.; son, Anthony, Davenport; five grandchildren; special Marine friend, Donald Howe, Bering, Mo.

    Douglas Thorington Jr.

    Douglas Scott Thorington Jr., 14-day-old infant son of Douglas Thorington Sr. and Misty J.M. Siek, Davenport, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2006, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

    Funeral services will be 1 p.m. today at Runge Funeral Home, Davenport, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the mortuary. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport.

    He was born March 16, 2006, in Iowa City.

    Survivors are his parents; half-sister, Tesha Thorington and half-brother, Tony Thorington, both Davenport; grandparents, Lee and JoAnn Stansberry, Diane Siek, all Davenport.

    Douglas' family was deeply touched by his short time with them. His brief life had meaning for all.
