    Ross Kitchens

    Ross J. Kitchens, 82, of 2034 38th St., Rock Island, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

    Visitation is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Knox-Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island, where further arrangements are pending.

    Florence Morrissette

    Florence M. Morrissette, 87, a resident of River Park Healthcare Center, Rock Island, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at the center.

    Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, where she was a member. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the church.

    Florence Bender was born May 18, 1911, in Walnut Grove, Minn., the daughter of Peter and Leonie Gryp Bender. She married Arthur Morrissette Aug. 31, 1931, in Green Valley, Minn. He died Dec. 20, 1978.

    She retired from the Carson Pirie and Scott, Moline, in 1970, where she had been a sales clerk. In earlier years, she had worked at the former Wiesse's Dept. Store, Loves Park, Ill.

    She enjoyed doing needlework and working crossword puzzles.

    Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, LaVona and Paul Martin, Rock Island; seven grandchildren including Russell Wykle of Rock Island, who was raised by his grandparents; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Ann Madison; and 12 brothers and sisters.

    Clara DeClercq

    Services for Clara S. DeClercq, 99, of 2002 9th St., Moline, are 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, and noon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. Burial is in National Cemetery, Rock Island.

    Visitation is 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Seton Jr. High Building Fund.

    Mrs. DeClercq died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

    She was born Sept. 13, 1899, in Sleidinge, Belgium. Clara Van Speybroeck married Victor DeClercq Dec. 8, 1920, in Victor, Iowa. He died Aug. 19, 1976.

    She retired in 1960 where she was employed as a custodian at Alleman High School, Rock Island.

    She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline.

    Survivors include daughters and a son-in-law, Evelyn DeClercq, with whom she resided, and Alice and Donald DeWulf, Moline; grandchildren, Karen Klockau and Cheryl Westin, both of Rock Island, Ann Wiseman, Mansfield, Ill., Jerry DeWulf, Muskego, Wis., and James DeWulf, Coal Valley; and seven great-grandchildren.

    Matthew York

    Services for Matthew Adam York Jr., infant son of Hollie Covert and Matthew A. York, both of Moline, are 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, Rev. Stanley Deptula, Sacred Heart Church, Moline, officiating. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.

    Adam was stillborn Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

    Survivors include his mother and father, Hollie Covert and Matthew A. York, both of Moline; a brother, Isaac York, Moline; grandparents, Elmer and Julie Covert II and Larry and Monica York, great-grandparents, Dorothy DeVolder, Richard and Dorothy Slead, and Daniel and Alga Domingo, uncles, Ryan and Robert York, all of Moline; and an aunt, Shauna Covert, Lillian, Ala.

    Julius Rabe

    Julius H. Rabe, 85, of East Moline, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at Rosewood Healthcare Center in Moline.

    Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Esterdahl Mortuary Ltd. in Moline. Burial is in Riverside Cemetery. There is no visitation.

    He was born April 3, 1913, in Davenport, the son of Emil and Emily Irwin Rabe. He married Alice Evans in Moline on June 8, 1941.

    In 1932, he worked as display manager of the Sears Group of the Tri Cities. In 1940, he transferred to Pittsburgh, Pa., as Sears Group Display Manager; in 1949 he transferred to Chicago as assistant to the National Director of Display and Store Planning; and from 1955 to 1973 he worked as fixture development director for National Store Planning Division.

    He was a collector of Packards and a member of Packards Automobile Classic and Packards Internationals.

    Survivors include his wife; a son, Joseph Rabe, South Pasadena, Fla.; grandchildren, Scott and his wife, Wendy Rabe, of Cary, N.C., and Kristine Rabe, Madison, Wis.; and a great-grandson, Kyler Rabe, Cary, N.C. He was preceded in death by brothers, Charles and William.

    Blanche Davis

    Services for Blanche Davis, 93, of Aledo, are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trimble Funeral Home, Aledo, with Rev. Thomas Petree, First Baptist Church, Aledo, officiating. Burial is in Aledo Cemetery.

    Visitation is 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Aledo.

    Mrs. Davis died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, in Mercer County Hospital, Aledo.

    The former Willie Blanche Tapscott was born Nov. 4, 1905, in Northtown, Ky., the daughter of William M. and Martha Jane (Short) Tapscott. She married Louis Bert Davis on Dec. 20, 1919, in Munfordville, Ky. He died Jan. 29, 1989.

    She was a farm wife and mother most of her life. She also worked as a cook at the former Roosevelt Military Academy, Georgetown Manor Nursing Home, and Phillips 66 Restaurant in Aledo, and babysat and provided assisted care of the elderly. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Aledo, and VFW Post 1571 Auxiliary. She loved crocheting and playing bingo and cards.

    She is survived by six children and their spouses, Oscar B. and Evelyn Davis of Stronghurst, Evelyn and Ralph McGinnis of Illinois City, LaVeta Bear of Rock Island, Groomer B. and Mary Ann Davis of Hartland, Wis., Nadine and Bernard Groharing of O'Fallon, Mo., and Vicki Morris of Wendover, Utah; 16 grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, seven stepgreat-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, an infant daughter, Darlene Davis, a son, LaVerne Davis, three grandchildren, a stepgrandchild, three sisters and four brothers.

    Shirley Jean Griggs, 62, Wyoming, Ill., died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at Methodist Medical Center, Peoria.

    Elmira Junchen

    Graveside prayer services for Elmira L. Junchen, 86, Knoxville, are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Greenmound Cemetery, Keithsburg. There is no visitation. Memorials to Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Knoxville. Family Funeral Services, Aledo, handled arrangements.

    She died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at the home.

    She was born Oct. 18, 1912, to Ernest W. and Anna Pagenkopf Junchen.

    She attended and graduated from Neilsville, Wis., High School and attended and graduated from Stevens Point, Wis., Steven Point Teachers College. She taught in many schools, retiring from the Manasha Wisconsin Grade School System after 44 years.

    She enjoyed gardening, decorating her home and helping others. She also enjoyed sports and attending school functions where she taught.

    Survivors include a daughter, Lawrence Junchen, Sherrard. She was preceded by brothers, Harold and Walter.

    Marian Kundert

    Marian E. Kundert, 79, Galena, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

    Services are noon Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Galena. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery, Galena. Visitation is 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Steinke Funeral Home, Galena.

    She was born July 8, 1919, in Rice Township, Jo Daviess County, to Edward and Rasalie Melchoir Peschang. She married Howard Kundert Nov. 20, 1941, in Rockford. He died Dec. 4, 1984.

    She was employed at Jo Daviess County Clerks Office for several years, then was a secretary for the supervisor of assessments before retiring.

    She was a member of St. Mary's and its Altar and Rosary Society.

    Survivors include sons, Kenneth, Freeport, and Richard, Erie; a daughter, Betty Kundert, Hanover, Ill.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marcella Sherrard, Hanover.

    Ruhl Bowman

    Ruhl L. Bowman, 78, of Sherrard, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center, West, in Rock Island.

    Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Kirk, Huggins and Esterdahl Funeral Home in Orion. Burial is in Swedona Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Swedona Lutheran Church.

    He was born Oct. 19, 1920, in Swedona, the son of Walter and Myra Peterson Bowman. He married Desyl I. Holliday June 26, 1943, in Kahoka, Mo.

    He was owner and operator of a semitruck leased to RISS International in Kansas City, Mo., retiring in 1980 after 42 years in the trucking industry.

    He was a member of Swedona Lutheran Church.

    Survivors include his wife; a son (and spouse), James (Patricia) Bowman, Sherrard; grandchildren, Jacquelyn, Joleen and John Bowman, all of Sherrard; sisters, Cleora Ward, Orion, and Ruby Souder, Blue Grass; and brothers, Don Bowman, Orion, and John Bowman, Lynn Center.

    Roma Tornquist

    Roma Jean Tornquist, 68, of New Windsor, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

    Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church, New Windsor, where she was a member. Rev. William Zanton officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Alpha. Burial is in Hopewell Cemetery, New Windsor. Memorials may be made to Tri-County Ambulance, Calvary Lutheran Church or New Windsor Public Cemetery.

    The former Roma Jean Eckley was born Dec. 24, 1930, in Toulon, Ill., the daughter of Earl and Lucille Dixon Eckley. She graduated from Toulon High School in 1949. She married Robert Tornquist on Feb. 10, 1952, in Toulon. They had just celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary.

    Roma was a homemaker and had been a florist for 25 years, currently employed at Country Flowers and Gifts in New Windsor. She was a member of the Fern Leaf Society at her church and a volunteer reader at Winola Grade School in Viola. She enjoyed following her grandchildren's activities, cooking, baking and reading.

    She is survived by her husband, Robert; daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and David Richardson, Viola, Barb and Tom Streeter, New Windsor; and granddaughters, Jacque and Betsy Richardson and Emily Streeter. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Kenny.

    Buell Young

    Buell Young, 89, of Franklin, Tenn., formerly of Erie, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at National Health Care Center, Franklin.

    Graveside services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Parklawn Cemetery, Dunedin, Fla. A memorial fund has been established.

    Mr. Young was born March 27, 1909, in Erie, to Elmer and Nella Turner Young. He married Irene Dennis in 1937. She preceded him in death. He had been employed at Deere and Company, had been a Thermogas dealer in Hillsdale, and retired from City Gas, Miami, Fla., in 1977. He was a member of the National Guard, Erie Christian Church and Erie Masonic Lodge.

    Survivors include daughters, Janet DeCosta and Shirley Smith, of Nantucket, Mass., and Sharon Mauth, Franklin; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and brothers, Keith, Port Byron, and Lauren, Erie.

    Ricky Martin

    Mr. Martin died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center, West, Davenport.

    He was born Feb. 1, 1960, in Everett, Wash., the son of Franklin M. Martin and Linette Bernice Zeitler Martin.

    He was employed as a cook at the Outing Club, Davenport, and had planned to attend Culinary Arts School in New York.

    He was a veteran, having served as a U.S. Marines Lance Corporal.

    He enjoyed running and fishing and had ran in the BIX 7 for the last five years.

    Survivors include a sister (and spouse), Annette (Dana) Krider, New Windsor; a brother, Frank D. Martin, Brandon, Fla.; his parents, Franklin and Linette Martin, Inverness, Fla.; maternal grandmother, Bernice Zeitler, Rock Island; paternal grandmother, Edna Martin, Mechanicsville, Iowa; two nieces; a nephew; and a great-niece. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Ralph Zeitler; paternal grandfather, Maynard Martin; and a brother, Franklin Martin, in 1966.
