    Charlie E. "Fox" Freeman, 99, of Rock Island, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2006, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

    Services are 1 p.m. Friday at Weerts, Davenport. Visitation is 11 a.m. to services. Burial is in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport.

    He was born June 10, 1907.

    Surviving are special friend, Cheryl Stovall Harrington, Rock Island; four stepdaughters, including Shirley McLemore, Davenport, Linda Walton, Davenport, Vanessa Benson, Davenport; two stepsons, including Michael Benson, Davenport; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

    Josephine Bull

    Josephine E. Bull, 84, of Moline, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.

    Services will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, and 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline, where she was a lifelong member. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. There will be a combined rosary recited by the Sacred Heart Altar & Rosary Society and the National Catholic Society of Foresters Court 956 today at 4 p.m. Burial is in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Church.

    Josephine was born Dec. 12, 1921, in Colona, daughter of Maurice and Elizabeth De Taeye Barbier. She married Albert J. Bull Aug. 3, 1942, in Fort Benning, Ga. He preceded her in death Jan. 29, 1985.

    Mrs. Bull was a seamstress for Seaford Clothing in Rock Island for 30 years. She was member of Sacred Heart Altar & Rosary Society and National Catholic Society of Foresters Court 956. Josephine bowled in the Forester Bowling League and enjoyed stock car races, crocheting and bingo. She was an avid Cubs fan.

    Survivors include a daughter, Rae Anne McKittrick, Moline; son, Thomas Bull, Moline; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Bull, Hampton; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Renstrom, Moline; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Albert Jr. in May 2006; a daughter-in-law, Carol in October 2005; brothers, Emil and Albert Barbier, and a sister, Louise De Volder.

    Robert Butt

    Robert C. "Bob" Butt, 57, of Moline, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, in his home.

    Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Burial is in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where Moline American Legion Post 246 will present military honors. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to an educational fund for his granddaughter.

    Robert Christopher Butt was born Sept. 7, 1948, in Moline, son of Robert M. and Lois Hollmer Butt. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was a mechanical engineer at the Rock Island Arsenal for many years, retiring in 1999.

    He was a member of Moline Lodge 1014, AF & AM, and Moline American Legion Post 246. He enjoyed classic cars.

    Bob is survived by a son, Bradley Butt, and his partner, Kandie Maze, Casper, Wyo.; a daughter, Melissa Butt, Moline; a granddaughter, Mikaela Alexandria Slay; a brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Diane Butt, East Moline; and special friends, Lee Moens and Jim Reed. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Daniel and Jeffrey Butt.

    Charles Garvey

    Charles M. Garvey, 59, of Milan, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

    Funeral services will be at noon Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan. Visitation will be one hour before at the funeral home. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 569/200 and VFW Post 1303. Memorials maybe made to the family.

    Charles was born April 24, 1947, in Andalusia, son of Leland and Julia Simmons Garvey.

    He was employed at Horst Zimmerman for many years as a mechanic. Charles was a member of Milan American Legion Post 569 and Rock Island Eagles.

    Mr. Garvey enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, boxing, dancing and was very active in Milan American Legion fish fries.

    Charles was a U.S. Army Veteran.

    Survivors (and spouses) include his daughter, Amy Garvey, son, Charles Garvey Jr., both of Davenport; special friends, Pat DeBruyne, Milan, and Judy Bateman, Ben (Kassie) Elder, Amanda (Paul) Potter; grandchildren, Treasure and Darius Rockwood, Heaven and Mason Garvey; five stepgrandchildren and sister, Suzie Garvey.     Frank DeRocker

    Frank E. DeRocker, 93, formerly of Coal Valley, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, at Good Samaritan Village, Geneseo.

    Funeral services will be noon Saturday, Aug. 19, with a visitation one hour before at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, 6601 38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Church, Rock Island, or St. Malachy's Church and School, Geneseo.

    Frank was born Jan. 21, 1913, in Rock Island, a son of Edmond and Marie DeRocker. He married Irene Van Hulle Aug. 9, 1934, in Moline. She preceded him in death in September 2004.

    Frank graduated from Rock Island High School. He graduated from Bradley University, Peoria, with a B.E. degree. He took graduate courses at the University of Hawaii, with a master's degree from the University of Missouri. He took special courses of study at Augustana College, Western Illinois University at Macomb, Illinois State University at Normal, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and the University of Illinois.

    Before returning to Rock Island County, he taught in the Territorial Schools of Hawaii and was vocational coordinator and a teacher at Helena High School, Helena, Ark., where he coached the girls' basketball team to the 1938 Arkansas State Championship. He was a consultant at Statesboro and Tifton, Ga., Colleges and was a principal at Brentwood High School, Brentwood, Mo.

    On April 15, 1946, he became superintendent and principal of Rock Island County Farm Home and School for Boys. Later the name changed to Arrowhead Ranch. His wife, Irene, was the bookkeeper, cook, house mother and had other duties at the home. He was first superintendent of the home and principal of the school from April 1946 thru June 1959. Frank continued as a board member from July 1959 to September 1990.

    After leaving Arrowhead, he was principal at Coal Valley Junior High, Wilson Junior High and Ericsson Elementary. He was instrumental in starting the bilingual (Spanish) program at Ericsson. He retired in June 1970 after having completed 36 years in the field of education.

    Frank was a longtime member of the Moline Rotary, having 38 years of perfect attendance.

    He loved spending time with family and enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling, playing cards with friends, golfing (he was a former caddy at the Rock Island Arsenal), hunting (especially in his earlier years), and the outdoors in general.

    Survivors (and spouses) include daughters, Carol Hardin, Moline, Nancy M. Boehm, Eau Claire, Wis.; grandchildren, Heather Irene (David) Minssen, Prophetstown, Justin Frank (Amy) Hardin, Annawan; great-grandchildren, Grant, Sydney and Jackson Minssen, Prophetstown; nieces, Jane (Jack) Showalter, Rock Island, Jean Jerman, Indianapolis; nephew, Bill (Joy) DeRocker, Zionsville, Ind.; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; two brothers, Medard DeRocker and William DeRocker; and niece, Devee DeRocker Gingrich.

    Ruth Adams

    Ruth E. Adams, 63, of Tampico, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2006, at CGH Medical Center, Sterling.

    Cremation rites were accorded. Private memorial services will be held today at Garland Funeral Home, Tampico. Private burial of cremains will be in Tampico Memorial Cemetery.

    She was born Aug. 10, 1943, in Sterling to Frank W. and Geraldine Atkinson Renner. She married Robert Adams.

    Dorothy Hagerty

    Dorothy H. Hagerty, 86, of Galva, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2006, at St. Mary Medical, Galesburg.

    Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Rux, Galva. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. today. Burial is in Galva Cemetery.

    She was born April 26, 1920, in rural Galva to Arthur and Helga Nelson. She married Wayne Hagerty. He died in 1971.

    Surviving are sons, Roger Hagerty, Galesburg, Ronald Hagerty, Dahinda, Ill., Richard Hagerty, Randy Hagerty, both of Galva; daughter, Rita Johnson, Galva; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ivan D. Nelson, Galva.

    Andrew Redman

    Andrew P. Redman, 67, of Geneseo, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport, surrounded by his family.

    A Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Malachy's Catholic Church, Geneseo. The Rev. Michael Pakula will celebrate. Burial will be in North Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo, where a scripture service will be said at 7:45 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Andrew P. Redman Memorial Fund.

    Andy was born Sept. 14, 1938, in Decorah, Iowa, son of Dale and Ruth Barker Redman. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1961. He married Jean Ann Weber on Feb. 6, 1965.

    Andy's career was at John Deere Dubuque Works and Deere & Co., Moline, from June 16, 1958, through Dec. 31, 1999. His career highlights included four U.S. patents. His friends and family, especially his grandchildren, were his greatest joy. He enjoyed golfing, skiing, boating and rebuilding cars. His latest accomplishment was building a Shelby Cobra racing car.

    Survivors and spouses include his wife, Jean; son, Mark and Lorrie Redman, Colorado; daughters, Marcia and Brad Fleming, Geneseo, Marlo and Jim Martin, Aurora; grandchildren, Claire and Eric Redman, Abigail, Andrew and Jacob Fleming and Emma Leonetta Martin; his mother, Ruth Redman, La Porte City, Iowa; brothers, John and Barbara Redman, his twin, Bob and Hwa Cha Redman; sisters, Nancy Redman, Susan and Jim Brust; Jean's family, mom, Leonetta Weber, Irene and Don Budden, Rose and Ira Kunkel, Jim and Carol Weber, Janis and Wendell Comer, Joe and Cindy Weber, Mary and John Trannel, Nancy Miller, Rita and Bob Leifker; and many nieces and nephews. Andy was preceded in death by his dad, Dale Redman, 1968; his son, Marvin Redman, 1989; and his father-in-law, Herman Weber, 2003.

    Inez Schurvinske

    Inez Schurvinske, 87, of rural Geneseo, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, at Hillcrest Home, rural Geneseo.

    Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 18, at the Myers Chapel, Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Geneseo. The Rev. Dr. David Esche will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Myers Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Geneseo Humane Society.

    Inez was born Oct. 6, 1918, in Munson Township, Henry County, daughter of Fred and Minnie Schwark Schurvinske. She was educated in Munson Township. Inez farmed all of her life and had lived on the same farm since she was four months old. She loved gardening, flowers, cooking and animals.

    Surviving are five nieces, Betty Wirth, Sandy Hilligoss, Eileen Schurvinske, Barb Setterberg, Sharon Lofgren, all of Geneseo; two nephews, Jim Schurvinske, Rock Island, and Chuck Schurvinske, Geneseo. Also surviving are six great-nieces, eight great-nephews, six great-great-nieces and 11 great-great-nephews. Her parents; a sister, Lois Schurvinske; two brothers, Gale and Earl Schurvinske; a niece, Carol Schurvinske; and a nephew, Robert Schurvinske, preceded her in death.

    Ethel Cunningham

    Ethel E. Cunngingham, 89, of Bettendorf, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2006, at Bettendorf Health Care Center.

    She was born Feb. 25, 1917.

    Edna Danielsen

    Edna H. Danielsen, 102, of Davenport, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2006, at ManorCare Health Services, Davenport.

    A celebration of life service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Davenport.

    She was born Edna Helen Voss on Aug. 20, 1903, to Ernest H. and Freda Linneberg Voss in Luverne, Minn.

    Edna was employed by Cook Coffee Co. for 25 years, retiring in 1968. She belonged to Zion Lutheran Church and A.A.R.P. She enjoyed gardening, her flowers, word search puzzles and her family.

    She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Carol Danielsen, Davenport; four grandchildren, Randy and Bruce Danielsen and Scott and Lisa Smith; five great-grandchildren, Jamey, Chris, Heather, Robert and Paige; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

    Her parents preceded her in death, as did her daughter, Doris M. Washburn, her son, Robert L. Danielsen, two sisters and two brothers.

    Eileen F. Meck, 81, of Burlington, Iowa, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2006, at her residence.

    Private family services are in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Services are 11:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Luke United Church of Christ, Burlington, with visitation one hour prior. Her body has been cremated. Arrangements are by Lunning, Burlington.

    Surviving are husband, Thomas; children, Carolyn Fisher, Des Moines, Janet Hankins, Cedar Falls, Iowa, Douglas, Pella, Iowa, William, Muscatine; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; one half-brother.

    Marvin Miller

    Marvin M. Miller, 72, of Bettendorf, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, at Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf.

    Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

    Marvin was born in Brixey, Mo., on Feb. 26, 1934, son of Doshia Leek and Claude E. Miller. He was married to Erba Hutchins from 1956 to 1980.

    He was employed as a machine operator for 30 years at John Deere Harvester in East Moline, retiring in December 1986. He was a charter member of the Q.C. Bass Club, UAW and Davenport Schuetzen Club.

    Marvin was an avid fisherman and hunter, including fishing in the first BASS Master Classic in 1971 at Lake Mead. He was a taxidermist and a trophy deer hunter and fishing lure maker. Friends and family will miss his enthusiasm for life and his love of the great outdoors.

    An ultra-accomplished outdoorsman, Marvin's nearly unparalleled skills were self-taught by his extreme persistance to learn and excell. Seldom a TV watcher, he was a voracious reader of outdoors books and magazines in his never-ending quest to be the best. Blessed with a nearly impeccable memory and an "outdoors sixth sense," his finger was constantly on the pulse of fish and critters. In the early 1970s, he competed in four BASS events, placing no lower than 13th, and earned a berth in the first BASS Master Classic. He was very well-known for his bass angling prowess, which led to a legion of friends across the country. After undertaking the goal of harvesting trophy deer, he bagged an avergage of three Pope and Young class deer every two years.

    Survivors (and spouses) include his sons, Rick (Rhonda) Miller and Mike Miller, Bettendorf; granddaughter, Melissa Storck, Tampa Bay, Fla.; one sister, Allie (Henderson) Gentry, Ava, Mo.; five brothers, Lavern (Jessie Mae) Miller, Willow Springs, Mo., Therman Miller, LeClaire, Dorman (Sang) Miller, Bettendorf, Willis (Sandy) Miller, DeWitt, and George (Deanna) Miller, Grayling, Mich.; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special pet, Bixby. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Geneva Miller and Ola Jane Dubil, and his parents, Doshia and Claude Miller.
