Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota, with the Rev. Dale Peterson officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, provided the arrangements.
Mr. Florschuetz was born Dec. 20, 1917, in Compton, Ill., to William and Lena Schmidt Florschuetz. He married Lucille Brucker on April 29, 1948, in Mendota.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota, where he taught seventh grade Sunday school and was in the church choir for more than 60 years. He also was a member of the Lee County 4-H Fair beef committee, the Farm Bureau, Lee FS board, and the Resource Conservation and Development Council. He was a member of the Mendota Lutheran Home board and active with Green Wing Bible Camp.
He and his wife loved to dance to music of big bands including the Johnny Kaye Orchestra. He farmed his entire life in the Sublette area, and he and his wife were named the Lee County Conservation Family of the Year in 1969 and also won the same award in regional competition among eight farm families.
He is survived by one son, Steve (Susan) Florschuetz, Sublette; two daughters, Luanne (Stan) Urban, Prophetstown, and Mary Lee Twidell, Princeton; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ruth Becker, Hudson, Wis. He was preceded in death by his wife on Nov. 22, 2003; one brother, Edgar; and five sisters, Elva, Amanda, Gladys, Olga and Mildred.
