Several 2012 Bandits are 2013 Chiefs

Seven players from the 2012 Quad Cities River Bandits baseball team will be on the 2013 roster of the Peoria Chiefs, with the St. Louis Cardinals moving their affiliation down I-74 this season.

Former Bandits now with the Chiefs are starting pitchers Tyrell Jenkins, Hector Hernandez and Dail Villaneueva; catcher Casey Rasmus; and outfielders Nick Martini, Michael Swinson and Jordan Walton.

Ed Lee, an eighth-grader at John Deere Junior High School, Moline, is the 1989 spelling bee champion from among 49 top spellers in Rock Island, Henry and Mercer counties. He advances to the competition in Washington, D.C. Runnerup was Ed's sister, Susan.
