Services for Joseph Mayes Waechter, 89, of Davenport, are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport. Burial is at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, Davenport.
He died March 25, 2013, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
He was born Sept. 6, 1923. He married Louise Reiff on Aug. 28, 1948. She died July 30, 2012.
Surviving are his children, Margaret, Anne, Joseph Jr., John, William, James, Thomas and Mark; eight grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and cousins.

1989 -- 25 years ago: Few bricks actually tumbled, but no one seemed to mind as about 1,000 people gathered to celebrate the formal start of demolition at the site of a downtown civic center.
