BENTON, Ill. (AP) — State fire investigators are trying to pinpoint what caused a southern Illinois house fire that killed a 99-year-old woman.
Franklin County Coroner Marty Leffler says Dorothy Linn died of smoke inhalation during the blaze Wednesday morning in her home near Benton.
Authorities say that after firefighters responded to a neighbor's report of a fire at Linn's home, the woman was found unresponsive on the kitchen floor.
The Illinois State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating.
