Donald Ferkel will be honored at an open house on Saturday, March 2, in observance of his 80th birthday. Relatives and friends are invited to attend from 2 to 6 p.m. at American Legion Post 711, 106 S. Juanita, Blue Grass, Iowa. Mr. Ferkel was born on March 5, 1933, in Joslin. He served in the Army during the Korean War. Don served in Korea from 1950 to 1952. He married Nancy in 1955 and had two sons, Randy and Terry. Don worked for Oscar Mayer for 31 years, retiring in 1985. Don still is active and trucking for his own trucking company, Ferkel's Trucking, doing work for McCleary Excavating.
