Another dominating week by the Top 10. Another Wednesday vote requiring few changes to the Quad Cities Prep Basketball Power Polls.
The Top 10 teams in the boys' and girls' local media rankings tore through competition in the last week by a combined 32-5, with two of those setbacks to fellow top-rated teams.
While that understandably produced a second straight week of gridlock in the bi-state ballot, there was some movement this time, with Pleasant Valley (12-5) replaced by Sterling Newman (20-3) in the boys' Top 10.
United Township (18-11) and Wethersfield (23-7) also exchanged the 8 and 9 spots in the girls' rankings, and Assumption (18-2) edged ahead of Annawan (25-2) to break a second-place share from last week.
The Dispatch and The Rock Island Argus administers the poll for a sixth straight season. Participating co-sponsors this season include WQAD-TV 8, MC22, WFXN-AM 1230's Quad Cities Radio Group, Aledo's WRMJ-FM 102.3, the Kewanee-based Regional Radio Group and the Clinton Herald.
The Bettendorf boys (18-0) and Rocky girls (24-3) remained No. 1 in the season's fifth vote of local sportswriters and broadcasters.
Bettendorf received 17.5 of the 21 first-place boys' ballots cast, for 203.5 of a possible 210 voting points.
Season-starting No. 1 Rock Island (3) and No. 3 Rockridge (0.5) accounted for the other No. 1 nods in boys' action.
The Rocky girls earned 16 top nods for 202 points, with Assumption (3) and Annawan (2) receiving the other first-place support.
The top eight vote-getters remained the same in the boys' poll though support was lost in the last week because of setbacks by Rockridge (fell to Carthage Illini West), Kewanee (lost to Sherrard) and newly-crowned Lincoln Trail Conference tournament champ Wethersfield (dropped a league rematch with fellow finalist Galva).
PV also tumbled with a loss to No. 5 North Scott in boys' action.
On the girls' side, the Top 10 teams stayed the same despite the shuffling. Muscatine was the only loser, dropping a heartbreaking rematch, 61-59, for the Mississippi Athletic Conference title with Assumption.
In all, 17 boys' and 15 girls' teams received votes this week.

QC Prep Boys' Basketball Power Poll
-– These local media rankings are determined on a descending points system, with a first-place vote receiving 10 points, a second-place vote receiving 9 points, and so on. Presented by The Dispatch and The Rock Island Argus, WQAD-TV 8, MC22, WFXN-AM 1230's Quad Cities Radio Group, Aledo's WRMJ-FM 102.3, Kewanee-based Regional Media and the Clinton Herald.
Rank. Team (1st) (Rec.) Pts. LWK.
1. Bettendorf (17.5) (18-0) 203.5 1 -- Last week: Beat Davenport West, 75-59 Friday; Won at Clinton, 66-38 Tuesday. Note: Iowa's second-ranked 4A squad sits a victory away from clinching no worse than a share of the Mississippi Athletic Conference crown, two games up on Assumption and North Scott with three to play. Next: Friday hosts Davenport North; Tuesday hosts Burlington.
2. Rock Island (3) (17-4) 189 2 -- Last week: Beat United Township, 61-51 Friday. Note: Back in the state's Top 10, and back in the Western Big 6 Conference race, with Galesburg upsetting Quincy last weekend. The league's three-time defending champs are spoiling for revenge for a 53-52 loss to the Streaks in mid-December. Next: Friday hosts No. 16 Galesburg; Saturday at Aurora Central.
3. Rockridge (0.5) (20-3) 143.5 3 -- Last week: Lost at Carthage Illini West, 59-53 Friday; Won at Geneseo, 70-35 Tuesday. Note: The Rockets slipped from fourth to seventh in this week's Class 2A state rankings. However, if they take care of business in this weekend's rematch. a West Central North title share is a cinch. Next: Friday hosts No. 6 Monmouth-Roseville.
4. Assumption (14-4) 138 4 -- Last week: Beat Clinton, 53-49 Friday; Won at Muscatine, 73-39 Tuesday. Note: Iowa's fourth-rated 3A club picked a tough week to try and build momentum heading into the postseason. The Knights are rematched with a pair of rivals, who both fell by a combined 7 points early last month. Next: Friday at No. 11 Pleasant Valley; Tuesday hosts No. 5 North Scott.
5. North Scott (17-2) 114 5 -- Last week: Beat Muscatine, 55-17 Friday; Won at No. 9 Pleasant Valley, 47-41. Note: Six straight victories since Iowa 4A's seventh-ranked squad suffered setbacks in back-to-back games to Assumption (38-36) and Bettendorf (62-26). Next: Friday at Burlington; Tuesday at No. 4 Assumption.
6. Monmouth-Roseville (19-4) 95 6 -- Last week: Beat Macomb, 52-39 Friday; Beat Canton, 66-44 Tuesday. Note: If Illinois' ninth-ranked 2A team avenges last month's 62-56 loss this weekend, expect a three-way title tie in the rugged West Central North Conference. Next: Friday at No. 3 Rockridge; Tuesday hosts Farmington.
7. Kewanee (19-4) 63 7 -- Last week: Won at Prophetstown, 78-63 Thursday; Won at Princeton, 57-41 Saturday; Lost at Sherrard, 68-67 Tuesday. Note: Bad loss this week to a future Three Rivers Conference foe. But what matters is the Boilermakers sit three wins away from an unbeaten 14-0 run to this season's league title. Next: Thursday at No. 17 Riverdale; Saturday hosts Amboy; Tuesday hosts Bureau Valley.
8. Wethersfield (21-4) 59 8 -- Last week: Beat Mercer County (72-69 Friday) & Galva (57-54 Saturday) to win the Lincoln Trail Conference Tournament; Lost at No. 16t Galva, 67-64 Tuesday. Note: The Flying Geese won the battle -- winning the LTC tourney title -- but lost the war in a quick rematch with defending champ Galva for the league's regular-season title. Next: Friday at Stark County; Saturday at No. 15 Orion; Tuesday hosts Monmouth United.
9. Danville (20-0) 52 10 -- Last week: Won at state-ranked Burlington Notre Dame, 83-46 Thursday; Won at Cardinal Eldron, 93-50 Saturday. Note: Iowa 1A's top-ranked team posts numbers like it was playing a video game, whacking foes by a state-best average of 51.1 points per game. Next: Friday at Lone Tree.
10. Sterling Newman (20-3) 41 11 -- Last week: Beat No. 18t Erie, 62-39 Saturday; Won at Fulton 52-43, Tuesday. Note: A quirk in the TRAC schedule offers a pair in less than a week with league-winless Morrison. Defending champ Riverdale, though, can play the role of spoiler, with Newman 10-1 and a game behind Kewanee in the conference title chase. Next: Thursday at Morrison; Saturday hosts No. 17 Riverdale; Tuesday hosts Morrison.

Next: Friday at Annawan; Tuesday hosts West Prairie.
14. Northeast Goose Lake (16-6) 6 13 --Last week: Lost at Midland Wyoming, 76-70 Friday; Lost at Bellevue Marquette, 51-40 Tuesday. Note: Four losses in the last six games? How is this team still in our poll? Next: Friday hosts Monticello.

NR. Erie (15-12) 0 18t -- Last week: Lost at No. 11 Sterling Newman, 62-39 Saturday. Next: Saturday at Bureau Valley; Tuesday at Prophetstown.
NR. Bureau Valley (18-10) 0 NR -- Last week: Won at Princeton, 54-50 Tuesday. Note: Did the storm peak by winning Erie's Warkins Cardinals Classic at Christmas? Next: Saturday hosts Erie; Tuesday at No. 1 Kewanee.
