Mary Lou Udy, Rock Island, will celebrate her 80th birthday with a surprise party from 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 10, 2013, at the Moose Lodge, 4410 9th St., Rock Island. Relatives and friends are invited. Bring a story or photo for a memory book.
Mary Lou Viviani was born Feb. 11, 1933. She married Jim Udy on Oct. 13, 1951, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Davenport. Jim passed away Oct. 23, 1988.
Her children are Cathy (Blake) Murphy; Kim (Kevin) Block; Laura Udy (Ruben Sierra); and Marybeth (Chris) Myers. She has five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She retired from Augustana College in 1997. She is a member of St. Pius X, Rock Island.

1939 -- 75 years ago: The German army has invaded Poland in undeclared warfare. Poland has appealed to Great Britain and France for aid.
1964 -- 50 years ago: Publication of a plant newspaper, the Farmall Works News, has been launched at the Rock Island IHC factory and replaces a managerial newsletter.
1989 -- 25 years ago: Officials predict Monday's Rock Island Labor Parade will be the biggest and best ever. Last minute work continues on floats and costumes for the parade, which steps off a 9:30 a.m.
