Helen Armstrong
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial is at the Peniel Cemetery in Joy. Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Fippinger's. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association, and online condolences may be made at www.fippingerfuneralhome.com. She was born Sept. 13, 1924, in Pittsfield, Ill., to Roy and Frances Gaylor Hays. She attended Pin Oak County School in New Boston and married R. Keith Armstrong on Jan. 19, 1943, in Aledo. Helen was a homemaker and assisted in the operation of the family farm. She was a member of the Viola United Presbyterian Church, the Garden Club in Aledo and Eastern Iowa Antique Tractor Pullers. She enjoyed flowers and gardening. She was a great cook and enjoyed helping people. Helen is survived by her husband, Keith; two daughters, Pat McCaw, Springfield, Ill., and Vickie (Frank) Mann, upstate New York; one son, Keith (Jennifer) Armstrong, Kannapolis, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Donna Armstrong, Aledo; one sister, Frances Huber, Aledo; three brothers, Clinton Hays, Viola, Raymond (Elaine) Hays, Alexis, Leslie Hays, Monmouth; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Robert; one grandson; two great-grandchildren; two brothers; and one sister.
