CAIRO, Ill. (AP) Police in the far southern Illinois city of Cairo say the victim of a deadly shooting last week was a 25-year-old man who recently returned there from Chicago.

Investigators say Everett Rice was killed in the shooting early Saturday at the McBride Place housing complex.

There's no immediate word on any arrests or charges.

Police have not disclosed what may have motivated the shooting. But Jeannifer Giden, a woman who lived with Rice and was the mother of his children, told the Southeast Missourian of Cape Girardeau, Mo., that witnesses told her the gunfire erupted over a dice game.
