Romney phones Israeli PM to discuss Iran, Mideast

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A nuclear-capable Iran and recent developments in the Middle East and North Africa were among the topics Mitt Romney discussed during a telephone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Friday afternoon. The White House said President Barack Obama also spoke with Netanyahu by telephone on Friday. The Romney campaign said the Republican presidential nominee and the prime minister discussed 'a number of topics of mutual interest to the United States and Israel.' They reiterated that 'an Iran with nuclear weapons capability is unacceptable,' a position Obama shares. Romney has been critical of Obama's relationship with Israel's leader. Netanyahu told the United Nations on Thursday that tougher action is needed to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons and an attack on Iran's nuclear facilities may be the only answer.
