James D. Rhodes, 69, of East Moline, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at his home.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Sullivan-Ellis Mortuary, East Moline, with services on Thursday, Sept. 13, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, East Moline. The Rev. P. Wonder Harris will officiate. Burial is at Rock Island National Cemetery.

James was born April 12, 1943, in Rock Island, the son of Leonard and Clara Byrd Rhodes. He married Willie Mae Drew on March 19, 1963, in Rock Island.

James was a forklift operator for John Deere Harvester for 28 years, retiring in 2003. He loved fishing, football, Chicago Bears, baseball, Cardinals and, most of all, he loved his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy.

He is survived by his wife, Willie Mae; sons, James Issac Rhodes, East Moline, Leonard W. (Pam) Rhodes, Rock Falls, Ill., Donneil Rhodes, Texas, Edward Rhodes, Milan; daughters, Clara Marie Rhodes, Columbia, Mo., Colette Lynn Rhodes, East Moline; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Clara Harris, East Moline; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert; and grandson, Bobby Marsh.
