Outside Magazine places Davenport in nation's Top 20 Riverfront towns

Outside Magazine, the nation's leading adventure travel magazine with a circulation of just about 700,000, has named Davenport, iowa as one of America's top 20 riverfront towns.

The magazine in its October 2012 issue wrote that its mission was to select America's most progressive, adventurours, and livable river towns. Editors partnered with American Rivers to select ten towns, then turned to its readers to nominate another ten to round out the 20.

Davenport, the article notes, defies the region's reputation for cornfields and grain silos with culture – the Figge Art Museum – rugged recreation – Friends of Off Road Cycling 30 miles of mountain bike trails. The article also notes the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Festival and unreal bass and walleye fishing on the Mississippi River. (Note: the Quad Cities has hosted six national FLW Outdoors fishing championship in recent years and is set to host its seventh, the FLW Outdoors National Guard Walleye Championship Oct. 25-28, 2012.) "Bix, Blues and the lovely Mississippi " the article concludes.

Of special note is the the fact that the October issue of the magazine is its 35th anniversary issue, certain to attract more readers and attention.
