Jane Elizabeth Smith, 59, of Milan, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, at Trinity Rock Island, surrounded by her family.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 3, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at First Presbyterian Church, Milan. Burial will follow at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or Shoes that Fit.

Jane was born on Oct. 28, 1952, in Moline, the daughter of William P. and Mary Jane Farrell Kale. She married William "Bill" E. Smith on Jan. 2, 1971, in Rock Island.

Mrs. Smith had been employed as a teacher with the Davenport Community School District for the last 17 years.

She was a 1970 graduate of Alleman High School and later completed bachelors and masters degrees at Western Illinois University.

Jane was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Milan and Delta Kappa Gamma. She loved her church family, singing in the choir, flower gardening, traveling, photography and especially spending time with her grandchildren and family.

Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Bill; children, Brian C. (Holly) Smith, Milan, David W. (Sarah) Smith, Plainfield, Ill.; grandchildren, Abigail, Jack, Liam, Ethan, Melody, Zachary; mother, Mary Jane Kale, Milan; siblings, Susan (Bill) Waugh, Peoria, Ariz., Peter (Patricia) Kale, Urbana, Ill., William T. Kale, Rock Island, Nancy (James) Chadwick, East Moline, Patricia (Ramon) Mendoza, Moline, Mary (Joe) Brune, Rock Island, Margaret (Fred) Kellogg, Bernardsville, N.J.; many nieces, nephews and cousins, especially Patricia Haines, Moline. She was preceded in death by her father.

A special thanks to Dr. Constantinou, Dr. Stoffel, Dr. Bode, Dr. Purighalla, their staff, the Trinity West 4S staff, especially Tawny.
