Daniel R. "Dan" Stone, 65, of Port Byron, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at his home following an 11-year courageous battle with cancer.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at Peace Lutheran Church, rural Port Byron. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Peace Lutheran Church.
Daniel was born June 24, 1947, in Moline, the son of Lynn and Marilyn Stone. He graduated from Riverdale High School in 1965. Dan then received his bachelors degree in engineering from Bradley University. He married Eileen Vroman at Peace Lutheran Church, Port Byron on Dec. 17, 1966.
Dan attended Peace Lutheran Church. He worked for Reynolds Ford in East Moline where he was the commercial sales manager. He had a passion for cars and was a Ford enthusiast. He enjoyed snowmobiling and NASCAR racing. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Dan loved spending time building memories with his grandchildren.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Eileen; mother, Marilyn, Port Byron; two children and their spouses, Jennifer and Bryant Brace, East Peoria, Ill., Jason and Angie Stone, Fenton, Ill.; four grandchildren, Clare and Caroline Stone, Kiera and Connor Brace; brother, William (Lynn) Stone, Port Byron; sister, Diana Peterson, Port Byron; father-in-law, Al (Betty) Vroman, Geneseo; three brothers-in-law, Dan (Betty Jo) Vroman, Tom (Laurie) Vroman, and Jim Vroman, all of Hillsdale; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Rita Stone; mother-in-law, Gladys Vroman; and brother-in-law, Greg Vroman. A special thank you to his friend, Dr. Konda.
