Eva Margaret Schmid, 98, of Silvis, passed away from this life in the afternoon of Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, at Genesis Medical Center Illini Campus, Silvis.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline, with visitation 2-4 p.m. and 6-7 p.m. on Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. A rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Burial is at Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge.
Eva was born Nov. 3, 1913, in Grafton, N.D., to Conrad and Margaret Narlock Tanke. She had wanderlust, moving to Minneapolis, Minn., and later to Milwaukee, Wis., where she met her husband, Alois "Louie" Schmid. They married April 24, 1938, moving to Oshkosh, Wis., where they raised two children, Robert Louis and Margaret "Peggy" Eva.
Her favorite things were cooking for lots of company and sewing of all kinds. In the early years, she sewed the entire family's clothing. She later sewed for others, including making vestments for local clergy. After retiring from work at the County Courthouse in 1980, she and Louie moved to Phoenix to be near her son, who then passed away unexpectedly in 1981. Louie passed away in 1987, so in 1991, Eva came to Moline to live with her daughter and best friend, Peggy. They were together until her death.
Eva is survived by her loving daughter, Peggy, and son-in-law, Oscar Carlson, Silvis; four grandchildren, William, Julia, Elijah and Matt, and two great-grandchildren, all in Ariz.; five stepgrandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Gunderson, Tucson, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her husband; son; grandson, Michael; her parents; her sister; and two brothers.

Although she's been teaching for 43 years at the school, Miss Dayfound a new way of arriving at the school this morning. At 7:30 a.m., a police squad carpulled up in front of Miss Day's home and escorted her to school. A caravan of students' cars joined the procession along the way. 1988 -- 25 years ago: Barbecue cooking and riverfront antics are planned for Discover the River Day Saturday in Leach Park, Bettendorf. A 5K run, wind surfing, a canoe race, hogcalling and more will round out the day under the Interstate 74 bridge.
