Clair A. Wood, 82, of Moline, died Saturday, August 25, 2012, at Trinity Rock Island from multiple health issues.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory Ltd., 6601 38th Ave., Moline. Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial is at National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal, with military honors conducted by Moline American Legion Post 246. Memorials may be made to Smile Train or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Clair was born March 31, 1930, in San Diego, Calif. In 1933, after his mother became ill, he came to Rock Island as a foster child to live with his grandparents. On May 23, 1953, he was joined in marriage to Gloria M. Nonnenmann at St. Joseph in Rock Island. They shared 59 years of marriage, and were blessed with five children, Angela, Kim, Andrew, Timothy and Laura.

Clair enlisted in the Army in 1948 and was a Korean War veteran. Honorably discharged in 1952, he returned to Rock Island and worked at various jobs before he started his career at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1988 after 40 years of service. After retirement, he worked at Miller Container in Milan as a security guard for a few years. He was involved in the Rock Island Conservation Club, Rock Island Moose Club and also was a 5+ Gallon blood donor. Clair enjoyed woodworking and fishing, although, with five children, not sure how much he enjoyed it until his later years.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria; children, Angela Wamsley, Kim (Dennis) Ford, Andrew (Mary Lou) Wood, Timothy (Sandra) Wood and Laura Murray; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Clarence, Ervin, Charles, Gerald and Walter; one sister, Bertha; and son-in-law, Stuart Wamsley.
