Mary Joan DeTaeye, 85, of East Moline, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2012, at her home, with her daughter and son-in-law by her side.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Burial is in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mary Joan Sprout was born Oct. 1, 1926, in Monmouth, daughter of John Edward "Jack" and Mildred McChesney Nash Sprout.

She graduated from UTHS, class of 1944. She married William "Bill" DeTaeye on July 22, 1961, in Hampton. Bill preceded her in death on Jan. 31, 2003.

Joan had worked for 18 years at Strombeck-Becker Manufacturing Co. and retired after 24 1/2 years as an administrative secretary from Deere & Co. Mrs. DeTaeye enjoyed antiquing, reading and playing bridge. She belonged to several bridge marathons.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Tracey and Mike Minteer, East Moline, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Theresa and Leslie Schotka, East Moline; and her nieces and nephews.

In addition to her her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Guyer.
