Marlin "Mike" R. Durham, 79, of East Moline, died Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at his home.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Burial of cremains will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens at a later date. A celebration of his life will be noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 9, at the Moline Viking Club. Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice, Moline Viking Club's Scholarship fund, or St. Jude. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Moline, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mike was born on May 12, 1933, in Davenport, the son of Russell and Ella Durham. He retired from John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline, in 1985, as a plant engineer. After retirement, he worked as a contract engineer for Tech Staff, Davenport. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. Mike was an avid golfer and bowler and excelled at both sports.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Durham; children, Mike Durham, Davenport, Kathy (Steve) Webster, Blue Grass, David (Rose) Durham, Rock Island, Jerry (Janelle) Durham, Robinson, Ill., Shari Gowdy, Orion, Cindee (Frank) Huffer, Silvis; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ila Hennessey, Davenport, Arlene (Eddie) Jennings, Davenport; many nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Donna (Ralph) Thelen; and grandson, Keith Tumosa.
