The Silvis school district will hold a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the George O. Barr cafeteria to tell the community about remodeling plans for the old Silvis Junior High.

Junior high students start at the new Northeast Junior High building this fall, so the district plans to convert the old junior high, adjacent to George O. Barr, into space for the grade school.

Superintendent Ray Bergles, BLDD architect Bruce Maxey and representatives of Estes Construction will be on hand to discuss plans and answer questions.

Construction trailers will move into the grade school parking lots, causing increased traffic around the school and Gauley Field. A new water line also has to be installed. District buses will be parked at the new school during remodeling.

Eventually, the two oldest wings of George O. Barr will be demolished.

The district also will hold a sale of excess furniture — desks, chairs, tables, AV carts, televisions and other items — from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 22, in the parking lot across from George O. Barr. It will be cash only — no checks or credit cards – and all sales are final. Buyers must remove their items immediately.

For more information, call Mr. Bergles at (309) 792-9325.
