CAMBRIDGE — A woman filed suit in Henry County circuit court Wednesday against Fareway Stores in Geneseo, alleging that a fall in the store on or about June 8, 2010, caused her to incur "great pain and anguish in mind and body."

According to the suit, Marisa Thompson was a customer in Fareway that day and asked to use the restroom. The suit states the restroom was in the rear of the store and was for the use of employees and patrons.

After using the restroom in the employee area of the store, according to the suit, she stepped on a slippery area and fell, sustaining "sustained severe and permanent injuries to her right arm including a fracture to the right radial head and the structures of the right elbow."

The suit states Fareway improperly operated and maintained the premises, allowed the slippery substance to remain on the floor, failed to remove the slippery substance, failed to make a reasonable inspection of the area and/or failed to warn her about it.

She is asking for in excess of $50,000 to cover medical expenses, lost wages and "loss of normal life."

Ms. Thompson's attorney is Glenn Ruud of Ruud, Scovil and Marsh of Rock Island.

An assistant manager at Fareway said she could not comment on the suit.
