A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 2, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established.
Estelle C. Campos was born July 18, 1937, in Moline, the daughter of Raymond and Consuelo Soto Campos. She married John P. Perez, in 1958, in Rock Island. She moved to the Quad-Cities in the mid '70s to be closer to her parents and raise her children.
She had worked at the family business, the Acapulco Cafe in Rock Island and was employed at Lincoln Elementary School, Rock Island, having served as a translator, cafeteria monitor and playground monitor.
Sally was a member of St. Pius Church, Rock Island, the Red Hats, In Touch and Busy Hands. As a member of Busy Hands, she helped make and donate baby hats and quilts to the local hospitals. She was well known because of her participation in the many activities at Coventry, where she resided.
She participated in the Senior Olympics and won three Gold Medals this past year.
Her favorite pastimes were bingo, the casino and canvas knitting. She enjoyed an occasional margarita and Bailey's Irish Cream.
Sally touched the lives of everyone who knew her. She was kind, generous, and loyal to her friends and her unique laugh showed her absolute love of life.
Most of all she loved her family and was a big fan of her grandchildren at their sporting events.
Survivors include daughters, Aida Morris, Rock Island, Maria Perez, East Moline, and Nicole Perez, Moline; sons and daughter-in-law, John Perez, Rock Island, Chris and Brooke Perez, Milan, and Scott Perez, Rock Island; and her foster daughter, whom she raised, Rhonda St. Dennis, Rock Island. There are 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. The family would like to acknowledge their mother's uncle, Nick, uncle, Frank and aunt, Stella for the love and support they showed their mother during her life. Also surviving are brothers and sisters-in-law, Rupert "Pete" and Sarah Campos, Moline, Raymond "Jimmy" and Lupe Campos, Silvis, and Jesus "Chuchi" and Nancy Campos, Rock Island. She dearly loved her lifelong friends, Betty Walker and Willodean Myers. "Chico" was her pet Chihuahua and "lil friend."
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Armeta; sisters, Esther Villarreal and Maria Elena Campos; and brothers, Rudy and Ricky Campos.
