Several students from Rock Island's Thurgood Marshall Learning Center were injured Thursday after the bus they were on was involved in an accident in Davenport.

According to Rock Island-Milan school district spokeswoman Holly Sparkman, 19 students and one teacher were on their way back from the Putnam Museum in Davenport, where they had been on a field trip. She said six of the students complained of aches and pains and were taken to Genesis East to be checked.

A Davenport police news release said the accident took place at 11:56 a.m. near the intersection of West 3rd and Sturdevant streets. The release said a 1991 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by 71-year-old Ben McDonald, of Davenport, was going north on Sturdevant and failed to stop at a stop sign, causing the truck to hit the right side of the bus, which was traveling east on 3rd.

Mr. McDonald was charged with a stop sign violation, police said.
