Marian Joyce McChesney, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, passed away on May 16, 2012, in Thousand Oaks, Calif., at the age of 89, following a short illness.

A celebration of Marian's life will be held 11 a.m. June 9 at Elim Covenant Church in Moline. Per her wishes, Marian was cremated and her remains will be interred at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.

Marian Joyce Palmer was born on July 23, 1922, in Moline, to Harry and Edna Palmer. She and her brother, Colvin, were raised in East Moline and she graduated from United Township High School in 1940. Her grandparents were pioneers in East Moline, having a farm on the Mississippi River. Her parents operated the Palmer Florist Shop.

She was employed at Strombeck Becker and Graybar Electric.

She married Richard McChesney on March 13, 1954. They lived in East Moline, where they had three children, Royce, Reid and Ruth. In 1983, after Richard retired from the Rock Island Arsenal, they moved to Casselberry, Fla., where they lived for 20 years. After her husband passed away, Marian returned to live in Carbon Cliff. In September 2011, she relocated to Los Angeles, Calif., to be closer to her daughter and her family.

Marian kept busy with bridge clubs, traveling, entertaining, reading, being involved in her church activities and most of all enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered for her wit and great sense of humor.

She is survived by her son, Reid, Dallas, Texas; daughter, Ruth (Bruce) Martin, Westlake Village, Calif.; grandsons, Tyler Martin, San Francisco, Calif., and Drake Martin, Westlake Village. Marian was preceded in death by her daughter, Royce; husband, Richard; and brother, Colvin.
