Stephen Morse, Orion, will celebrate his 80th birthday this weekend.

Mr. Morse was born May 14, 1932, to Clyde and Bertha Morse, Maquon, Ill.

He graduated from Valley High School, Fairview, Ill. He married Cloma Suydam in the Dutch Reform Church, Fairview, on March 17, 1951.

His children are Douglas (Melanie) Morse, Muscatine, Iowa; and Charisse (Bill) Byrne, Fort Worth, Texas. He has six grandsons of whom he is extremely proud: Andrew Preston, Dallas; Michael (Erin) Morse, Calgary, Alberta, Canada; Ashtin Preston (Nikki) Grosset, McKinney, Texas; Philip (Melissa) Morse, Muscatine; Dain Preston, McKinney; and Drake Preston, University of Houston, Huntsville, Texas.

Steve lived in Knoxville, Ill., and was employed at Butler Manufacturing Co., Galesburg. He moved to Orion after joining John Deere Industrial equipment works in 1960. Steve retired from Deere & Co. in 1987 as senior welding engineer. He is a decorated Army veteran, serving in Korea.

1988 -- 25 years ago: Moline Public Hospital presented blue ribbons to the winnersof a recent poster contest, held in conjunction with National Hospital Week. Utilizingthe theme of "You're Our Specialty," the following were grand prize winners: MindyBenson, Moline; Thao Dang, Moline; Gared Laux, Moline; John Murphy, Rock Island;Justin Pulford and Bennie Jo Starkey, Moline.
