As she wished, cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, 6601 38th Ave., Moline. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to the Genesis Health Services Foundation, the Humane Society or the Disabled American Veterans.
Harriet was born April 28, 1918, in Port Byron, to the late Arthur and Myrtle Benson Bishop.
After graduating from Moline High School, she was employed at Eagle Signal, in the cost department of Frank Foundries and later as a deputy assessor. A longtime resident of Moline, she lived in Virginia and Pennsylvania during her husband, Byron's, military career. He preceded her in death in 1974.
She loved gardening, sewing and handiwork of all types and had a passion for antiques.
Survivors include her sons, Byron M. "Mel" (Bonnie) Turner, Coal Valley, and Samuel (Lynn) Turner, Trapper Creek, Ark.; daughter, Carole (Richard) Bondi, Bettendorf; grandchildren, David (Cyndi) Bondi, Ann (Brian) Kardell, Steven (Christine) Bondi, Todd (Deb) Turner and Jennifer (Rick) Miler; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and sister, Lucille Tenpound.
