Lois Y. Giffin, 83, of Aledo, died Friday, May 4, 2012, at the Mercer County Nursing Home.

Services are 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial is at Aledo Cemetery. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home, where memorials may be left to the Sunbeam Presbyterian Church. Lois was born Nov. 25, 1928, in Elgin, Ill., a daughter of Roland and Hazel Watkins Mielkey. She graduated from Rock Island High School. She married John A. Giffin Jr. on Sept. 14, 1947, in Milan. He died Dec. 8, 1997.

Lois was a homemaker, a member of the Sunbeam United Presbyterian Church and Mercer County VFW Post 1571 Auxiliary.

Survivors include one daughter, Sandra (Stephen) Lingafelter, Aledo; one son, William Giffin, Spokane, Wash.; three grandsons, Matthew (Kristen) Lingafelter, Galesburg, Marcus (Shelly Imler) Lingafelter, Aledo, and Timothy Lingafelter, Chicago; four great-grandchildren, Ryan, Katee, Megan and Abby; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; and one brother.
