Maria Altamer, 80, of Rock Island, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at St. Anthony's Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Rock Island, after a short fight against pancreatic cancer.

Burial will be in Romania at a later date. DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, is assisting the family.

She was born on April 28, 1932, in Timisoara, Romania, the daughter of Sciprione and Maria Barascu. Maria married Octavian Altamer in January 1951.

She came to the United States in 1979, with her daughter, Ana, to join her husband. He preceded her in death in 1998. Maria was employed as a seamstress for Seaford Clothing, Rock Island, retiring in 1988.

Maria is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ana and Alex Blaz, Rock Island; grandson, Allen (Kate) Blaz, Phoenix, Ariz.; and great-grandson, Alec.
