Staff report,
Augustana's first season of college lacrosse turned out to be rather memorable. The Lady Vikings led the nation in scoring while the men's program boasted one of the country's stingiest defenses. Both teams wrapped up action over the weekend. The women's team, which posted a record of 15-3, led NCAA Division III in three offensive categories. Included were total points (507 on 346 goals and 161 assists), goals-per-game (19.22) and scoring margin (11.17 points). Augustana freshman Hilary Kargl (Sacred Heart Academy/Louisville, Ky,) also led the nation in goals scored (97). On the flip side, the Augie men ranked third nationally on defense, allowing only 72 goals for an average of 5.14 per game. Those Vikings finished 8-6 while pitching two shutouts and allowing five or fewer goals eight times.
