The Moline City Council voted Tuesday to nearly triple the fee to impound vehicles using a "boot," from $35 to $100, to cover the city's costs.

Now, vehicle owners with five or more parking tickets, or more than $50 in fines, can have their vehicles impounded by the city through the use of a "boot."

In other business, the council approved a $302,985 contract with Valley Construction Co. to resurface four streets in the Heritage subdivision this year:

-- 46th Avenue Court west of 51st Street;

-- 51st Street from 44th to 47th avenues;

-- 53rd Street from John Deere Road to 47th Avenue; and

-- 47th Avenue from 48th to 53rd streets.

Mayor Don Welvaert also told aldermen he is having City Clerk Tracy Koranda look over the length of meetings from the past 12 months to see if there are any patterns and possible opportunities to consider.

Most Illinois municipalities hold meetings twice a month, not every week, he said, and there may be certain times of the year when Moline aldermen could meet every other week.

Once the information is gathered, it will be given to aldermen for their review, he said.
