Contract negotiations on Tuesday between Nichols Aluminum and Teamsters Local 371 officials did not result in an agreement.

The next contract negotiation meeting is planned May 21, according to Nichols president Tom Brackmann who declined to discuss Tuesday's negotiations.

A division of Quanex Building Products, Nichols produces flat-rolled aluminum sheet metal. Much of the company's products are used in building and construction.

Contract negotiations began Oct. 6, 2011, with the contract expiring Nov. 15. Union members were on strike from Jan. 20 until April 6, two days after Nichols made more than 100 temporary employees permanent.

During the strike, Nichols continued to run its Davenport plants at 1725 Rockingham Road and 2101 J.M. Morris Blvd. with salaried staff and the temporary employees.

About 80 union members have returned to work but 110 members have not. Those not working have been placed on a preferential hiring list and will be offered the chance to come back as there are openings, Mr. Brackmann said.
