Henry L. Humbard, 80, of Geneseo, passed away Monday, April 30, 2012, at Geneseo Good Samaritan Village.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at Vandemore Funeral & Cremation Services, Geneseo, followed by military honors conducted by the Don Cherry VFW Post No. 5083. Visitation for Henry will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, prior to services at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Per his request, cremation rites will be accorded after the services. Memorials may be directed to Henry Humbard Memorial Fund.
Henry was born on June 4, 1931, in Hamburg, Iowa, the son of Oscar N. and Virginia C. Lambeth Humbard. He was united in marriage to Jean D. Newman on Aug. 9, 1952, in Essex, England.
Henry proudly served his country for 20 years in the U.S. Army, retiring as a first sergeant. He had also been employed at Oscar Mayer Meat Packing Company, Davenport, for 18 years. He was a member of the American Legion and had served as commander of Paris Landing American Legion Post 89, Paris Landing, Tenn. Henry also was a member of VFW and a volunteer for the American Red Cross for 10 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, especially being on Kentucky Lake. Henry was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Jean; two daughters, Sue (Joe) DeVoss, Cocoa, Fla., Mary (Mike) Pratt, Geneseo; a son, Bob (Tonya) Humbard, Franklin, Ind.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Fanny Gass, Joplin, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and four brothers.
