1. "Merger talks grow serious for Western Big 6, Mid-State 6 conferences" -- For the second time in less than a month, athletic directors from the Western Big 6 and Mid-State 6 conference met in Galesburg. In a released statement from the Big 6 after the meeting, "there is enough interest in exploring a conference expansion or merger to move the discussion to the next level."

2. "Ealy named Alleman wrestling coach" -- Six weeks after being removed as the Moline wrestling coach, James Ealy was hired for the same position at Alleman.

3. "Sherrard's Corken has a 'Skye'-high night" -- Sherrard freshman runner Skye Corken sets meet records in the 1600- and 3200-meter races at Alleman's Sailer Invitational.

4. "Moline's Ponce rare QC champ at Chicago Golden Gloves" -- Moline native Limberth Ponce became the Quad-Cities' first Chicago Golden Gloves champoion since 2002 after winning the 106-pound title.

5. "Geneseo's Nystrom 'can pretty much do everything' on a soccer field" -- Geneseo senior soccer player Kelsey Nystrom, this week's Metro Pacesetter for The Dispatch and The Rock Island Argus, is an all-around player who leads the Illinois Quad-Cities Metro with 95 career goals.

6. "Football POY Johnson among latest four signings" -- Moline running back DeShawn Johnson sings a national letter of intent to continue his football career at Iowa Central Community College.

7. "Orion softball team wins for a cause" -- Once again, the people of Orion did themselves proud in their support for the second annual "Strike Out Cancer" softball game with Rockridge. On the field, though, the Chargers' West Central Conference North Division rivals from Rockridge got the upper hand in a 5-2 victory.

8. "Litton sparking LTC-leading Titans" -- Annawan-Wethersfield junior baseball player Tyler Litton, this week's Area Pacesetter for The Dispatch and The Rock Island Argus, leads the 18-3 Titans with a .416 batting average and 33 RBIs.

9. "260-foot home run leads Maroons in sweep of Galesburg" -- Jordan de los Reyes' 260-foot home run to straightaway center field provided the momentum in Moline's Western Big 6 Conference softball doubleheader sweep at Galesburg.

10. "Hall-of-Famer Williams sees bright future for Cubs" -- Former Chicago Cubs outfielder Billy Williams, making an appearance at the Moline Menard's grand-opening event, says his former team can have success under new general manager Theo Epstein.
