Former local prep boys basketball coach Scott Olson was relieved of his coaching duties at Rock Falls High School this past week, according to a report in the Sauk Valley News.

The paper reported that a large crowd gathered for last Wednesday's school board meeting at which time the board voted to remove Olson from his coaching duties. Then, by a 4-3 vote, the board kept him on as an alternative school teacher in the district.

Former players and parents spoke out against Olson, claiming the veteran coach was verbally abusive and showed favoritism toward some players.

In his two seasons at Rock Falls -- where he and his wife have two kids in athletics at the high-school level -- Olson's teams finished with 23-7 and 12-15 records.

Olson began his varsity coaching career at Orion High School and has since been at United Township, Danville and LaSalle-Peru.
