Betty L. McSparin, 82, of Coal Valley, died Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at Hillcrest Home, Geneseo, surrounded by her children.

A visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, 6601 38th Ave., Moline. There will be an Order of the Eastern Star service conducted by Chapter 258 at 7 p.m. Per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Burial of ashes will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 30, at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Home or to the Order of the Eastern Star.

Betty was born on Dec. 24, 1929, in East Moline, the daughter of Arthur and Marie Powers Miller. She married Robert McSparin on April 20, 1951, in Moline.

Betty worked in the Collections Department for Montgomery Elevator, which is now KONE. In 1992, she became the Grand Martha in Order of the Eastern Star in the state of Illinois. In the past, she was a Grand Lecturer for several chapters of OES. Betty was a member of the Moline Cribbage Club and was a big Chicago Cubs fan. She enjoyed needlepoint, knitting, crocheting, reading, playing cards and gambling at the boat.

Survivors include her children, C.J. (Alfred) Osterhaus, Salt Lake City, Utah, Jacci Albrecht, Geneseo, Robert "Bobby" G. McSparin Jr., Coal Valley; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, Steven Krachum.

He is deeply involvedin miniature railroading. At the age of 88, when many other seniors are dozing in theirchairs or sitting before the television, Mr. Kuschmann is planning and working on hiscollection.
