Augustana College president Steven C. Bahls, Rock Island, will receive Modern Woodmen of America's 2012 Community Service Award at a breakfast ceremony from 7:15 to 8:15 a.m., Tuesday, at the Hotel Blackhawk in Davenport.

The fraternal financial services organization will honor Mr. Bahls for his volunteer leadership role in the Quad-Cities.

He has served as vice chairman of the Putnam Museum board, secretary of the Quad City Symphony Orchestra board; past chairman of the Illowa Council of Boy Scouts of America executive board; member of the Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce executive committee; member of the Genesis Health System board; former chairman of the Illinois Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce board and United Way of the Quad Cities board.

The Community Service Award includes a grant of $7,500 presented in the recipient's name to a local charitable organization. Mr. Bahls chose the Putnam Museum to receive the award.

He also will receive an engraved Waterford crystal clock. Modern Woodmen initiated the award program in 1997 to help support local charities and encourage community involvement.

Selection is based on leadership in the community; impact on quality of life; long-term community service; involvement in the business community; and encouragement of others to be active.
