Sophia, Alexander top list of most popular baby names at Genesis

DAVENPORT, Iowa – Dec. 26, 2011 – Sophia and Alexander were the most popular names for babies born at Genesis BirthCenters this year.

Sophia, which didn't make the top 10 of popular Genesis girls names in 2009, topped the Genesis list for the second straight year. There were 22 Sophias born at Genesis BirthCenters in Davenport and Silvis in 2011. Sophia also is the most popular girls baby name nationally in 2011, according to babycenter.com

New parents at Genesis BirthCenters were less trendy in 2011 when they named baby boys. Alexander was only the 21st most popular name for boys in the U.S. in 2011 but Alexander topped the list at Genesis as 17 baby boys headed home with that name.

Isabella, the most popular baby girls name at Genesis in 2009 and No. 1 nationally in 2010, fell to a tie for third on the Genesis list and was also No. 3 for girls nationally. Isabella vaulted to popularity as a name for girls with the release of the "Twilight" series of books and movies.

The top baby girl names at Genesis in 2011 were Sophia, Ava, Addison, Isabella and Lily. All of those names were also in the top 11 in the U.S. for girls in 2011.

The top five baby boy names at Genesis in 2011 were Alexander, Elijah, Noah, Landon and Logan. Noah has been a consistent favored name of parents of baby boys born at Genesis since 2006.

Among the unique names given to babies born at Genesis in 2011 were Acacious, Amariyah, Azariyan, Judiamond, Mitaveian, Rhemidy, Savi Fair, Symphonique, Tengeneza, and Zyier.
