FIRST LEGO league is a robotics program for children nine to 14 years old. It's designed to get children all over the world excited about science and technology and its very popular here in the Quad Cities.

During the regional qualifier, teams of 2-10 members will present the results from the research project for Food Factor – Keeping Food Safe. The teams will be judged on Core Values (teamwork) and Robot Design. They have three rounds on the competition tables to get the best score possible. Award winners may advance to the Championship event at Iowa State University in January.

This year, 37 teams registered to participate here in the Quad Cities. Nine teams from the qualifier will advance to the State FIRST LEGO league championship on January 14, 2012 at Iowa State University.

This is an extremely visual event and makes for a perfect "in your own words" piece. It's also a great opportunity to feature area youth and educate area parents.
